It's not unheard of, Europe averages about 300 per year.
Are you guys gassing people again?
Yeah we here in Murica get 3 out of every 4 of those world wide
That's the smoke from the ovens?
I bet the German word for that is no less than 23 letters long.
England has more per square mile than the US. We just don't have many square miles.
Freaking "der tornado." So infrequent they copped our word. Lost that one.
A wirbelsturm can be much more than a tornado. Every rotating wind system can be called wirbelsturm.
They should teach you not to drive towards them, even if you don’t get to see them very often
Windhose oder Großtrombe, beides möglich
Of all the words you want to scream quickly this is one of them. Imagine having to warn ppl with a 100letter word
As a Midwestern.... Meh.
The word is Scheisse! I think.
And Germans apparently don't know that tornadoes are dangerous, and folks should not be this close filming them.
Put your dick in it !
As an Oklahoman, living in tornado alley. I can tell that’s an F-Nein
‘Hail Hitl..’ nvm I’ll see myself out. That was bad
That one is amazing. Probably not for the people who's homes are being destroyed but nature didn't discriminate
They look to be a good distance away and not in the path of the storm. They could also be storm chasers.
Windhose or Wirbelsturm
I've seen videos from US where people are filming tornadoes as close as in this one
Good thing we tend to build sturdy houses. Only seen some roof damage from it.
I did nazi that coming
Oh hail no
Probably asking for directions to Colorado
Actually made me laugh out loud
Damn climate change. Ruining everything everywhere.
GET TO THE BARN
God damn beautiful. :')
they see heil all the time tho
We like to make it complicated... I mean it's more fun
Oh scheisse... wo war das denn?
Well, does it take that shed!?
No but there's hail on the ground there..
Nice pun that went way over my head hahahahaha
Du hast den Wirbelsturm vergessen
Experienced first time today in Germany too. I thought the roof of our house was going to rip off. Crazy.
US hell portal is leaking
Welp, looks like they fired up the ovens again.
English is a germanic language. If anything we copied them.
Revenge of the Jews
Put...put your penis in it.
This will be on the next anonymous video..
We had a couple of these in CT yesterday which is pretty rare. Probably my scariest ride home of my life last night.
This is he time to grab a beer and play the Gary England drinking game.
Likewise, er... leikenweisse!
I was in Munich last Wednesday/Thursday driving into a hail storm..looking out for one of those. FUN TIMES
The biggest tornadoes can rip the house out, foundation and all. But 95% of them couldn't even pick up a really fat guy.
Hey @ExtraUpvote this comment deserves at least one more, freaking funny :)
No such thing as Global Warming
Nähe von Viersen NRW
Windwurfer. It wurfs wind.
Isn't that spanish? Sounds spanish.
I get it
Gonna be honest I was unaware Europe could get Tornadoes. I know they're really common here in the states, and they happen in China too.
That's the Low German, I want standard.
The Apocalypse? Yeah that's pretty rare here too.
nah, its just "Orkan"
We’re not in Kansas anymo.... wait is this Kansas?
THAT explains the mild winds we had in Cologne today.
Put... put your
Looks like a big one. Make sure you secure your cows. That's the only advice I can give you.
What do they call that in ur part of the world? We call em tornados in North America, are these considered typhoon? Monsoon?
Did someone say mesocyclone
Rikkitikkitembonosarembocheriberiruchipipberipembo has fallen into the well!
House VS One spinny boi
That's climate change
I was watching Twister the other day and it made me research F5 tornado occurrences--they've happened all over the world! Others more so
Ich hab noch nie Großtrombe gehört
I was unaware Europe had tornadoes
My god, your roads look pristine!!!
We call this one “the fourth Reich “
Weather guy in tv said that ours are usually "clear" and less destructive. The dry weather and flat landscape made it so visible.
So I can get my... s-s-satisfaction
Put, put your dick in it.
Hope no one was hurt
Bop it. Twist it.
Hello fellow Okie. Someone tell these Germans the proper way to view these is in a lawn chair with a cold beer.
I cackled at that so loud and so long my cat became concerned
As a kid, I obsessively read about them. They’ve been documented everywhere except Antarctica. But probably still happen there too.
I'm but the son of a shepherd, and anything I can come up with is just a rehash of the same joke and even peasants have standards.
The Midwest sends their regards.
Is it a fire? I hear those used to be more common there.
You win. This should be the new name for this internationally.
50 in Germany alone
Negative. Orkan is equivalent to Typhoon or Hurricane. This is a tornado, or Wirbelsturm / Windhose.
Me to. The best spectator sport.
Great joke! I want Moore!
i have always used them interchangeably
Watch out for that hook echo!
Hahahah WIND HOSE. Brilliant
LoL! Yep that’s how it’s done!
Honestly, I didn’t even know tornadoes formed in Germany.
So you do Nazi those often? I'm sorry I only know 1 thing about Germany. It's Hitler. I know of Hitler.
Oh great, I’m going to Germany tomorrow.
That would be wrong. Orkan = (near) country sized, Wirbelsturm = not more than village sized.
They get like 300 a month in Oklahoma
BUT CLIMATE CHANGE IS JUST A THEORY
Do other countries have a Tornado Alley like in the US? I realize there are areas where it's more frequent than others but are they so...
frequent that it's not a question of if but rather how many like in the US?
Did it file the proper paperwork to storm that day to such a degree? Otherwise it will be hearing about it in the morning
weather measuring device in it
Translates to "whirling storm". German, the language of poets and philosophers.
If American tornadoes sound like freight trains what do German tornadoes sound like?
That shit DESTROYED my father's company. He had a leafblowers factory.
"Toto... I've a feeling we're not in Auschwitz anymore..."
*utensil drops on floor* "........finger of godt."
Still not "very often" though. I'd consider it "very often" if those 300 were for Germany alone. But for all of Europe? Nah.
Lol very good. Me too. Have you been in a destroyed structure yet? I'm on my second.
Oklahomans on Imgur, there are dozens of us! Dozens!
That pun is the wurst
If he names your cross street it’s time to finish the bottle.
Welcome to the 6th Extinction. Strap in cause shits gonna get weird.
So far I’ve counted 8
What did Moore ever do to you?
Yeah. I recommend to get closer.
Yeah... you got it. That ONE dudes video represents ALL of us perfectly.
I see Heil....Damn Dad jokes. This is who I have become. Sorry
Another American tourist visiting the old country.
From Tulsa here. Send help please. It is as an exciting place as it sounds.
Damn nature. You scary
God hates Moore.
@OP wow! Didn't know barns were rare in Germany. How do farmers cope?
I drive to Tulsa all the time, I’ll be there this weekend in fact. It’s a big enough city to actually get some really good bands to play.
Really? I thought Germans were used to HAIL!
No. Just f-nein
Obligatory "did nazi zat comink."
Kansan here I want in on this. Need a folding chair and pizza to go watch.
That's actually pretty beautiful. But are you sure it isn't wirbelschweinluftschuh or something instead?
i didn't think it would be a 'nado. i thought it would be a jew
Lol whirling pig air
Whirling pig air -shoe-. I still can't get over 'glove'.
Dang me too.
Thats just another Texas Titty Twister. Been there, done that.
Not necessarily. You are probably right on basic vocabulary but new invented things are mostly taken from english.
I guess shoes were invented first apparently
Welp, we ain't in Kansas anymore.
Shoes are ancient, yeah! Still, handshoe. I mean, it makes perfect sense, but it's still hilarious.
thank you for explaining my native language, but i still use it instead, because its quicker to say
You can’t explain it, you can’t predict it...
Try the word for hospital, krankenhaus, or, suffering house.
This is how I learn that Germany also has tornadoes? For some reason I thought they were a strictly American thing. The land-based ones.
There are Alabamians in Germany now? Someone should tell them, but delicately, don’t want to frighten them
Einen grossen Oklahoman meinen Godden .. nein zeit für obstkuchen Jetzt
I live a little south of Moore, and I don’t understand why people still live there. It was flattened to a parking lot not once, BUT TWICE!!!
Yip. at least.
My spelling is atrocious, I know.
Instead of a freight train it sounds like German porn
Killing yourself wont bring your dad back...sorry he died, but that was along time ago. You gotta move on...
Why would you say “don’t see” instead of “do not see”?
What does the "NRW" in the twitter status mean?
No hail Hitler jokes? Disappointed in you people
Wenn call IT Tornado or Wirbelwind or Lufthose or a total Katastrophe U see dictionari ist a Niveau Thing ????
Tornado Alley resident here: flip camera to selfie video mode, hold to buttocks, tell your ass goodbye.
So does the atmosphere
I think it is more convenient to stop here on the way to Kansas City or Dallas. Tulsa pays the fuel bill for the trip.
I've been living in OKC for just shy of 3 years now and tbh I'm kinda sad I haven't at least seen something form. I know it's bad but still
*awkwardly drops fork* "...It's the finger of God..."
It's a DANG twister!
Tornado is from Spanish "tronada".
Viersen bei Mönchengladbach. Können einige bestimmt besser zuordnen
How dare you make me read that with my own eyes. +1, jerk.
I think the crematorium is a bit out of control...
No. Wrong. That’s a nope.
Seems like hail stones there
Is it more efficient?
"The Finger Of God"
I am an Oklahoman as well, and when I saw this post I immediately blurted out "that's a BIG fucking tornado"
I like your username. +1
I don't think you're in Kansas anymore.
Ist trotzdem falsch.
Cool tornado, bro.
The finger of God
Issa tormado y’all
*laughs in american*
As a fellow Oklahoman I will agree with you
Yeah, you're right: Daslautewirbelnedingdaseigentlichnachamilandgehört
I live just south of Moore!
You know, I’ve been through it. Gotta set my watch back to it. ;-)
Oh hail nein!
Ooooh, Moore had a pretty big one not too long ago.
Serves you Nazi right.
Every time i drive through Moore, I wonder why people still live there. It's not very lucky, nader wise!
Does anyone else see a face in the tornado?
Actually.. "Hose" in German is "pants" not "pipe" or that kind of hose.
I just realized that I've never contemplated tornadoes in other countries.
Living in Nebraska is the reason I still get twitchy about the noon sirens up here. Freaks me out.
I bet they did Nazi that coming
I didnt even know other countries got tornados like the US. I thought we were special.
Ah. I assumed it was some German abbreviation like WTF.
Normally when there's hail in Germany it's followed by "Hitler"
As a fellow Okie I agree. I watched both May(1999 & 2013) tornadoes jump over my house and take out Moore.
That's a huge bitch!
You aren’t wrong. But I was witness to my first tornado warning in Arkansas a few weeks ago. Shit gets real when those sirens go off.
I mean... kinda. Since 1950 there have been 59 F5s in America, 1 in Canada, 2 in France, 2 in Germany, 2 in Italy, 1 in Russia. So most of
This movie is the reason I spent 7th grade in khakis and a white tank tops, I thought Helen Hunt was so cool.
the world definitely doesn’t see F5 tornados.
I'm positively surprised by the fact that no one said "Jews"
Get used to it. Climate change and such. We can't work on it though. That would be dumb. Anonymous conservatives told me so online.
because it wirbels sturm
Wow! Looks pretty powerful. It’ll probably freeze to death if it heads into Russia.
Okc, just north of Moore here!
Damn Climate Change you scary
What vertical filming?
dann bin ich halt falsch
Oh look the common tornado.....
Hi Germany, I miss you. I’ll try to be back soon<3
In a not so common place
*the occasional common tornado
The loud whirling thing that actually belongs in “Ami” land?
All you need is cold front
I'm wondering where the hell the wall cloud went
What? Terrible camera users?
As a Texan...meh...
Not this one, tornado comes from the Spanish word “tronada”, meaning a storm with lighting
Global warming, start getting used to them.
Naming tornados after keys on your keyboard makes them seem less threatening.
Climate is changing... I bet you will start seeing those more often in Germany...
If we were to continue the EF scale linearly that would be ~450MPH (~730km). Oh boy does that sound scary.
This. People think this weather is surprising. You heat a ball of fluids, the fluids are going to swirl faster. Higher highs and lower lows.
Well I'll be.
They're not exactly as intense as in the US, but technically they're the same and happen more often over the sea rather than on land.
Moon nazis are coming
Technically, there are more tornadoes per year in Europe than the US. They're significantly more minor though.
"Amiland" is german slang for the US.
That's almost 1 per day in a continent much smaller than the USA
Well that’s embarrassing
Ze car illegally stopping in ze middle of ze road. No, you don't see it in Germany.
Tornados in germany are on whe weak side, though, they look more dangerous than they are. also they are usually short lived
As a kid I used to read about them pretty obsessively. They’ve been documented everywhere except Antartica, where they probably still happen
abbreviation of the different states, just like in USA
the only total Katastrophe I see here is your sentence.
She was a badass in that movie
I know how tornados work. I’m just suggesting that there are some intense weather situations happening lately that are more than normal.
"Much smaller"? Dude, Europe is bigger than the USA. It's more like one every 1.2 days on a continent as big as the USA minus New Mexico.
I have to admit I did expect more yodeling
This is a Hauswerfer, It werfs Hauser.
You might then be surprised to know that the UK gets more tornadoes than anywhere in the world if you take into account our small land area.
Ours just aren't really very powerful with most being rated as F0 - F1. 2005 saw Birmingham hit by one that did £40 million in damage.
The UK's "tornado alley" is an area between London and the town of Reading.
Not much, less than 350,000 sq kilometers
We stole it where you stole it.
In Germany we also were unaware until recently. But thank FSM the climate change is just a hoax.
Homes destroyed? A few trees and a lot of roofs. Our house are made of sterner stuff. Also German engineering of course.
This is mein.
So? Europe is still bigger. While Trimbl claimed that Europe is "a continent much smaller than the USA". And that's just far from the truth.
I actually made a mistake above. Should read "a continent as big as the USA plus 2 New Mexicos". That would be about Europe-size. My bad.
Wo zur hölle ist das ??
I should have specified that I meant on a country by country basis. The UK sees more per 10,000 sq.km than the US because the US is bigger.
Which means the tornadoes are more spread out, whereas they're more concentrated in the UK because we're a smaller country.
Do you know any of the Behn’s?
My buddies are playing mayfest here!
I like it here. Could be living in Pawnee or Cleveland. Decent music scene, amazing food, good bars. But not a place I intend to stay.
Yeah it isn't so bad. It seems the longer you are here the more you like it.
I know Germans call us “Amis” I just couldn’t find an appropriate equivalent. Yankee-land? ;)
Tornadoes can't form in the mountains, so a good portion of the US is tornado free.
Get to a basement or center-most room in the building on the lowest floor. Take pillows and comforters to cover you.
We've been compromised.
