i bet most americans would answer the same way, whether they smoked pot or not.
*Pop quiz-- ohhhhhh! I get it!
Today's education system amiright
I immediately said to myself "easy they are the same as the ninja turtles you just need to remember who was the sculptor"
Caravaggio was badass
all he needed was a teacher to tell him that the Turtles were named after Italian Renaissance artists *boom* young mind molded
Just saying it's too bad that fine arts aren't mandatory ciriculam any more
It’s crazy those painters are named after the Turtles
Am American, can confirm.
Am also american can second this
If TMNT were never a thing, would those 4 still be the most famous renaissance artists? Or were there others who had been better known?
Am American, would remember that the turtles are named after painters and name them. Outside of those four who knows.
That title is dope.
Who the hell cares about some painters from ages ago, not me that’s for damn sure
Now I wish one of the three he listed was Donatello, so they could both be wrong.
I love the one where they behead a guy with a sword. Great lighting
I know of a couple extra painters but I have no idea what era they're from. I had a casual interest in art history.
He did list donatello lol
Don’t expect me to pay attention to things.
Am American and third. The motion passes.
He was technically Mannerist tho
This dude is a street advertiser (the green shirt) for a place on Venice Beach that writes marijuana prescriptions for $25 or something.
They probably would be as famous as they are know
Michelangelo was both a sculptor and a painter.
Those 4 had already been insanely famous for centuries when their names were chosen for TMNT.
And poor Titian got screwed out of the cultural zeitgeist
Not Renaissance. His name was also Michaelangelo but he didn't want to be confused with THE Michaelangelo whose career preceded him
Where I am, you either had to take an art (art, drama, choir, marching band, orchestra) or a foreign language each year of HS.
I believe you're giving too much credit to the ninja turtles on this one.
Slash, Venus, not sure who else
They're probably be replaced in the pantheon of great painters by the Italian brothers Huey, Dewey, and Louie LeDuck.
Uhhh, no. You're fake news. That's wrong. Go away. /s
Although by his own definition he was a sculptor, he also did some amazing paintings.
I'd like to think I would have least gotten Michaelangelo right. But on the spot like that, who knows.
Judith and Holofernes?
Caravaggio was at the tail end of the Renaissance.
Leonardo, Raphael and Michaelangelo - definitely. Donatello? Probably not.
Marijuana is a memory loss drug, Dwight
Cowabunga dude, so let's get it on, Reptiles against the fathers of the Renaissance...
I for one did learn this at school. And would not be able to repeat it tommorow. Now you explain me, why that is bad.
look who cares about renaissance painters, we have moved on to moving pictures now
most of those dont exist in US public schools now,why do you think teachers are striking so much lately. In OK they using 30yr old textbooks
I'm going to go by name and say it's Rocksteady.
Given that TNMT was a comic, I bet there have been storylines with other renaissance based turtles! Titian with his titian coloured mask.
He was undeniably Baroque. The Wolfflin Principles of distinguishing baroque are heavily evident in his works of art.
I know nothing about art, so it's not just an American thing. Every so often someone does a nice picture and that's art, but otherwise, it's
all just paint and rocks
I'm talking about the time period.
What are the Wolfflin Principles? I know fuck all about art btw.
What value does knowledge of these artists give us in our everyday life? We're surrounded by more art by faceless nobodies than ever and it
is glorious. There are endless talented people out there producing work that is extraordinary and meaningful.
2 that we don't focus on renaissance art as a society is part of a testament to the successes of the internet. For once in our lives, we
3 have everything at arm's length, but it also means we consume in such a dense and insane way that nothing is quite as meaningful.
4 there is art everywhere. The issue we have nowadays is doing what hasn't been done
"...make up the group with one other fellow, Raphael. He's the leader of the group!"
He really messed up that song. Jeesh!
One really important one stands out.
Crazy how nature do dat
Hey! I’M interviewing YOU!
they say it don't be like it is but it do
A lotta people would be hardpressed to remember names of freaking renaissance painters on a nice day out on the beach . American or not
"What a wonderfull day . Better brush up on my history of art in case some random jackass with a mic decides to quiz me about it "
No Leonardo da Vinci?
alright, break it up, this shit ain't getting any more meta.
Am American. I would've gotten Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, but I would've stumbled on the 3rd.
Well... They were named after the big 4.
But would you know they were named after renaissance era painters?
Donatello was not a painter.
Bunch of dicks all over the ceiling
Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and Metallica?
I prefer the early works of BeBop and Rocksteady.
not sure if this is a bad joke or a stupid joke.
Sorry, I was looking for cakes, cup cakes, cheese cake, and ice cream cake.
Wasn't Michelangelo a sculptor too?
Heh, only person I can think of that would be able to rattle off painters in a setting like that is a regular medical smoker.
Hand him a Kleenex titian...
The one by Artemisia Gentileschi is also pretty impressive.
Might depend on how many museums were available to a person as a kid.
Just take the L.
Depends on how timeless and perpetually relevant their work was.
Ever seen one of his statues in person?
Yes he was, and a damn good one! You may know him for the David statue
Leonardo was everything.
I saw the David in Florence. It defines perfection.
That was Michelangelo, no? Referring to Donatello. His form and faces are quite haunting.
Look at the balls on that one
He was Baroque.
Insert ubiquitous - 'Donatello was a sculptor'comment here.
I didn't get the opportunity.
There you go. This proves it is all about the question...
Mountains get so big because they have no natural predators. - Wisdom of Ken M
I'll take April O'Neil with the exoskeleton of Crank.
Why would you expect a random person to know about people, that don't affect their lives, born in a different country centuries ago?
I want to be approched by these stupid TV people who purposely try and make people look stupid. I'd show em all up I tell ya
I always loved Fettuccini.
She was influenced by Caravaggio.
That's Beebop bitch.
Shoulda asked the first question again after.
You make me sad. Please leave.
Honest Trailer voice-over guy: "BALLLLLLLLLLS"
What about "BEWWWWWBS
Nut in my dough
Mikey and Leo i would know, Raf and Don i would know nothing about, but know they exist.
I fuckin love you dude
Thousandare, painter, inventor, siege engineer. [Shoot To Thrill plays on a harpsichord]
This explains why they were able to get to global fame,if they were just nobodies with no name recognition, their tweets would be unfollowed.
Painters call it happy accidents
They both did David statues that are in Florence.
But these artists are not just « people ».
They are a series of characteristics that one can use to categorize paintings into either Renaissance or Baroque styled art. I also know >
fuck all about art. This is merely what I leaned from a few minutes of google and reading.
Splinter was an infection.
Thought Donatello was a sculptor only.. Did he paint too?
I would not have put that one together either. Not in a million years. But I'll never forget it!!
Ah, then don't presume to correct me.
easy! Shredder, April, Bebop and Rocksteady... (duh)
Mate, you fucking asked.
No, I said Caravaggio was in the Renaissance period. Then I got (incorrectly) corrected by someone who has no knowledge on the subject.
But then again. No
why is learning about people's names important? I was never taught who the renassance painters were, busy learning physics and calculus.
Caravaggio titian, rubens.
It's probably a sore point, but I wonder what happened to that guy? It's probably not right to make barbed comments.
I would have said Botticelli
Yeah well... do you think they want to show smart people in those clips? They keep asking until they find a slavering imbecile.
I’m Dutch and i had no idea the Ninja Turtles were named after painters...
Renaissance was 1300-1600, Caravaggio lived 1571-1610, so both are technically correct--though I'm sure you could argue his style both ways.
But...that ass tho.
Stylistically, he was influenced by the Renaissance and had a profound influence on the Baroque painters, so "he was both" isn't incorrect.
ehhhh, Caravaggio was baroque, Rubens was more flemish baroque, El Greco was spanish renaissance but his style is very different.
Hahaha yo dude they made the ninja turtles into real people
Mate, that wasn't fucking me. Read the damn user names. I saw someone ask a question who said they had no knowledge. I gave a resource. >
No good deed, though, I guess.
Sorry man, this app is fucking atrocious.
Fair enough. Apology accepted.
That's my favorite dick
These classifications are kinda artificial though
They're dependent on style and time period , so it's not artificial in the sense that they're not helpful for a teacher or student...
Might as well change the title to pop quiz for typical american. Or pretty much typical person
...just not interesting if you want to look at a painting and enjoy it--though stylistically there are some useful observations to be made..
"because pot smokers are idiots and we must prove it with this random person!"
...and can be applied when looking at an artist's work.
Yeah, I don't know why Americans aren't intimately familiar with renaissance painters like everyone from every other country is.
Maybe he painted his sculptures? Like Warhammer figurines.
We actually learned this and not any world history from the past century. Guess which is more important...
I thought you said Tsundere.
Pope: "Paint my church." Mike: "I'm a sculptor, not a painter!" Pope: "I'm a pope. Paint my church."
His wife was Pecorino's mistress for 4 years
My sister in law is a teacher and I know all too well how bad it is. It's really sad.
Gon paint a guy with his ass out though.
So was Artemesia
Your forgetting the painting duo of Tokka and Razhar
Or most people in general...
I intended it as both as I believe the initial commenter was as well. Hence /s
I am quite certain most Europeans would give the exact same answer as well
Because everyone gives a shit about renaissance painting right?
he also painted the Sistine Chapel
it was the first one he listed
He initially didn’t want to do the Sistine chapel because he considered himself a sculptor. But Donatello didn’t paint, I don’t think
Yeah painted a bunch of dudes with their dicks out on it
Looks like Venice Beach
"Nobody likes a show off Leonardo" said Barry, Leonardos cousin... But Barry was wrong, like always.
Yeah, he was a bit of a Renaissance man tbh
Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady, and who could forget the great Krang
was the renaissance in america? I think not. Name three american civil war generals
Cowabunga dudes, lets get it on ????????
beebob, rocksteady and krang
Donatello was not a painter, but a sulptor. Not like it matters, just wanted to final use my fine arts degree for something.
Well put. I saw an interesting thing once about why America is supposedly bad at history, but it's proximity. Eurpoeans practically grow >
up in it with centuries old cities and can visit historic sites easily, America doesn't and cant. It'd be like asking Londoners about
the painters of Shizu era in the Qing Dynasty. If it's not something you interact with regularly, it's just something you knew 20 years ago.
And the second best Italian poet of his time, overshadowed only by Dante.
I can't think of any, but I know the name of the car in Dukes of Hazzard. (As well as the name of a style of shorts.)
Ding. You can make anybody look bad if that's your plan from the start.
It's all just trivia. Some isn't more important than others.
How DARE you. Me too though.
I’m American and yeah... we could probably keep going. I even took an art history class and just kinda forgot everything.
Ok I'm an idiot. Pretend you never read that please.
Historians believe Michelangelo has autism, and was just seen as eccentric
Alfredo wasn't bad either
Renaissance painters are boring and those turtles were dope.
Also painter - sistein (sp) chapel
Yah was like... how did he not say Leonardo???
2) creating an entirely new art based on powerful emotion; as such he was entirely Baroque with not an ounce of Renaissance restraint in his
3) breast. Disco peaked from 1973-82, but the Sex Pistols were *not* disco. It wouldn't be technically correct to say they are. :)
4) Anyway, that's just my opinion dude. Was he influenced by the Renaissance? Sure. Was he of them? No, not a bit.
1) Caravaggio was absolutely not looking back to the refined, traditional painting of a century before but was
Tbh I don’t know the ninja turtle names but I do know a few of the painters
"I, I didn't make you an Iron Spider suit... b-baka!"
Why the hecken frick would you post this without sauce!?! Toxic post! I've been assaulted!
Underrated comment of the day.
Obvious troll is obvious
Were they dolphins?
I'd only do this if they let me ask them a random esoteric question with no prep as well.
What kind of art did Venus de Milo do?
It's easier than you think, bet you have heard of each of the following; Ulysses S Grant, William Sherman, Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson
and those daisy dukes are hard to forget about thanks to Jess Simpson. *wipes sweat from forehead*
It's ok, we have just as many retarded people as the rest of the world does.
Once a TV host asked a random chill dude on the street "What do you know about string theory" and the dude just wrote a thesis on it... fail
I'd be like "Da Vinci and the Ninja Turtles".
I agree that he fits in more with Baroque, but he was more the innovation that brought about Baroque than anything--I also see Renaissance..
influences in his work, but I'm not going to argue to what degree. My point was that it's a matter of opinion and there are two ways to...
group a painter, by style or date and the Sex Pistols would fit into 70s music and some use Renaissance in a similar vein--a good example..
is modernism which includes cubism, but cubism doesn't define all modernist work--it's more of a school of thought than a period of art.
Renaissance, usually refers to the ERA that spanned a couple of hundred years
... What was the name of the car in the Dukes of Hazzard?
I didnt even know the turtles were named after painters lol. not sure what this post is trying to prove? ofc 20 year old media is more known
Why did I read this comment in Ron Howard's voice??
some racist shit
