Mr.Earth I don't feel so good...
Hah hah I was like “stupid dumb planets why don’t they just move out the way?” Then I realised it was all a dream...
You don't know, it could be seeded deep. Real deep.
Won't Pluto get pulled into the sun as well?
No. Scientists are debating whether the sun will engulf the Earth or barely reach it's orbit. Europa has a chance to become Earth-like tho
The planets are not getting pulled into the sun. They are staying where they are as the sun increases in size.
This is one of those instances where even though it's wrong, it still kind of makes sense at least
Pluto, you're a planet. The plutonian overlords told me so.
They're called egg-corns
I USED TO READ WORD UP MAGAZINE
It is a planet again.. they apparently stopped mining..
No, because the sun's mass is not increasing, just its volume.
Somewhere out there Ceres is shaking her head calling Pluto a "whiny bitch"
Please don't tell nonsense
We're 8 light minutes from the sun. Pluto is 5.5 light HOURS from it.
Pluto’s resentment is in the bucket seats of our universe, my dude
I don't understand if this is a reference, but I love the example nonetheless
in fact, allthemore
Fun fact: When the Sun turns into a red giant, Jupiter and Saturn will exist within the habitable zone. 1/2
Well it is indeed a planet. A dwarf one.
Europa would therefore be able to have liquid water on the surface, while being protected by the magnetosphere of Jupiter. 2/2
You mean the Grebulons?
It's a legit term. It comes from someone thinking that acorns are eggcorns, and how that still makes sense. See also "old-timers disease."
And the Sun goes Nova and turns the rest to stellar dust
Actually they will go further away from the sun, because its losing mass in the process.
Its mass is actually decreasing in the process.
SALT N PEPPA AND HEAVY D UP IN THE LIMOUSINE
Nope, the Sun will never become a supernova. Not enough mass.
Never mind that jupiter is a gamma and xray hoe...
Yes you're right.
If I remember correctly, it will expand, shed its outer layers, and turn into a brown dwarf and eventually fade away as it loses all energy
What he said. It emits so much radiation, that the Juno spacecraft has to have a very elliptical orbit so that it doesn't fry itself.
Does a sun going red giant happen instantly or gradually?
That's not supposed to happen...
It will turn into a White Dwarf. A Brown Dwarf is a failled with not enough mass to start hydrogen fusion.
Ah, thank you
Ganymede has an atmosphere, its own magnetosphere and water ice.
Bone apple teeth. Take it for granite. For all intensive purposes. Chow!
The white dwarf will last trillions of years and eventually fade into a hypothetical black dwarf.
While some sayings seem rock solid, they really can't be taken for granite.
Gradually. The sun will burn through its hydrogen supply, and the core will eventually start burning helium. Once that happens it’s a RG
Almost correct. It will shed its outer layers and become a white dwarf. Brown dwarf- a star that was not hot enough to reach nuclear fusion
Also it won’t fade away, the core will be left behind to burn as a white dwarf and eventually (theoretically) a black dwarf.
If the sun was part of a binary star system it would likely go Nova once it reached white dwarf status! But it seems unlikely
Oh dang. I didn’t see the other reply, sorry.
I always thought it was deep-seeded. Ya know, the mental picture of a little seed o' hate growing into a big old grumpy tree.
nice Dougie adams refference there
They're constantly moving around
nope stars the size of the sun dont go nova
Not really. The radiation blast is always stripping gasses from its moons. They wouldn't have an atmosphere for long.
Also there might be a blast during the change that may disrupt orbits, especially for the close planets Earth and Mars.
I hope Neil Degrasse-Tyson sees this! Lol
I didnt know if when that happens it expands in a matter of hours, years, or decades
HANGIN PICTURES ON MY WALL EVERY SATURDAY RAP ATTACK, MR MAGIC MARLEY MARL
So Pluto is roughly 42 times as far away from the Sun as we are. But Pluto is nowhere near the edge of the solar system, so it's still crazy
Well I don't the comic and comment were referring to real life. Let's just stick to our happy place with fiction and imaginations :)
Now they can have a party. I wonder who will planet.
Because it makes sense that way.
I need that in image form, now.
I'm scared :(
We all do.
Roughly 100 million years for the Sun to go from hydrogen depletion to burning helium into carbon at the core
When will that happen?
probably millions of years at least
In a long long long long long long long long long long long long long time
In about 5,000,000,000 years
Wouldn't the water on Europa block any radiation from getting more than a few meters below the surface? Couldn't aquatic life live?
I LET MY TAPE ROCK TIL MY TAPE POPPED. SMOKIMG WEED IN BAMBU, SIPPING ON PRIVATE STOCK.
"." -- leaving a dot-comment for 4 billion years from now, when this comes true. sun becomes a red giant, swallows inner planets.
I too have been saying deep seeded... are we wrong?!
My only regret is that I have but one upvote to give
It will happen. Its not a dream
What do planets dream of when they take a little planet snooze
For all intensive purposes I guess it does
30 minutes or so
You stop that right now, dangit! Heck!
Fun fact : the Sun will get 10% brighter in ~500M years, making the Earth unhabitable if we don't build sunglasses for Earth by then.
Does Pluto have a heart-shape mark IRL?
Not going to lie, I said intensive purposes
Hone in on a target. Peak my interest. Case and point. I could care less!
WAY BACK, WHEN I HAD THE RED AND BLACK LUMBERJACK WITH THE HAT TO MATCH
that's what I imagined too. I don't understand "deep- seated" as a metaphor
Could we develop gills by then
Enough time to binge watch all of Netflix or play like 3 full games of risk.
That's great but when I joke that Pluto was voted off the island in the age of reality TV, I get downvoted to oblivion!
First of all how dare you. Can some one please reply with Kelly from the office in GIF form.
@ExtraUpvote please fulfill this person's wish
Thank you. Fuck Pluto people. Ceres is so underappreciated that people don't even know it's there.
Also momentum, else they'd be part of the sun by now. Though, come to think of it, Earth and Venus seem awfully close to Pluto at the end...
In this scenario, Pluto would fucking melt. It's mostly ice.
A designation I am almost certain it was given to appease Americans.
Don’t worry about you, your kids their kids, their kids their kids....... nvm how about this it’s further away in time then the entirety...
Of human history, the ice age all the way back to the freaking dinosaurs it’s even further away then that. If humanity still exists....
We’ll have found a solution. In other news we may all die very soon climate change, random meteor strike, trump still has 2 years...
Focus on the here and now, your life and your kids life and your grandkids life. Enjoy it, make it worth it. Good luck to you sir
This is what kills me about dictatorial regimes... their effort is so wasted because without a unified scientific effort we are all doomed.
The American Astronomical Society stated this week that in their opinion, Pluto is a planet. It's the definition of "planet" that is wrong.
This is why I love Imgur
REMEMBER RAPPIN DUKE, DA HA DA HA, YA NEVA THOUGHT THAT HIP HOP WOULD TAKE IT THIS FAR
REMEMBER RAPPIN DUKE! DaHa DaHA!
Go look at some photos of Pluto. It's cool!
Maybe they're trying to unify efforts and that's why they're dictators.
about 4 billion years from now, but in the meantime the Sun will brighten enough to make Earth uninhabitable in about 500 million years
Black dwarf? I’m assuming that’s just a dark star but what makes it special from a brown dwarf?
I mean we’ve got like 5 million years.
Or just live in deep ocean cities. Covered by a dome. But yea gills would be cool
A strange motive to attribute something that is counter-productive to that goal.
I didn't say they were smart.
Another fun fact: If Pluto had a closer orbit it would be considered a planet.
The sun likely wont turn into a red giant. By the time it is due, refueling a star will be a piece of cake
Well, none of us are doomed about something happening in 500m yrs. Why worry about the the next gen when you can pillage your own people?
Black dwarf is a trillions of years old white dwarf that has stopped burning completely. Brown dwarf is a failed star.
my favorite verse was "Super Nintendo, Sega Genisis, when i was dead broke I couldn't picture this"
Fortunately by then we should have made enough scientific progress to either be living elsewhere in the galaxy,or just build a dimmer switch
Something something "path to hell" something "good intentions".
ain't nobody got delta V for that
Reason 2,356 why I don't want kids. Why would I continue and force onto another such a grim present and future? I don't even want it!
ALL THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS – EXCEPT EUROPA. ATTEMPT NO LANDINGS THERE.
Or have the technology to turn the Helium ash BACK into Hydrogen...
Like nip in the bud/butt
Play it by year
play by year
Except the sun is way too small to go supernova.
Future generation existential crisis rising...
Pluto isn’t considered a Planet because it doesn’t have enough mass to have cleared other objects out of its path.
Think of 'seated' as in 'situated' - it's something so long established that it's firmly lodged in place.
Actually, my favorite hated version of this is to "diffuse" a situation.
I mean, significant solar events are so far in the future that humanity will either be long dead or completely different to what we are now
I mean, wouldn't the sun expanding to that size make IT blast a lot of the gas off of Jupiter and Saturn?
Guys this was beautiful. Who said world peace wasn’t possible?!
2001, nicely played
Aww, I’m so cute ^-^
Ok cool. What’s it so if it’s not burning is it just a tightly packed cluster of gas?
Yeah my bad whoops
maybe thats the enlightenment mankind needs to unite
Repeating for countless generations because that's a long ass time, and hopeful people won't self destruct by then
Yes, likely heavier elements like iron
Neat. I love learning about astronomy.
It’s a fun topic!
I like to think that some jerkass space company will dump enough toxic waste on Pluto to make it a planet some day.
Reminder: Pluto is not sentient and does not feel bad about its designation being corrected.
The funny thing is that if we start now, the deadliest of that garbage would be inoffensive at that point. Not enough tho
As far as I know, it's only ever been classified as a dwarf planet.
Upon discovery of similar worlds even further out, it had been reclassified as a dwarf planet as of 2006.
