The rabbit's hole
*no, your mother is the deepest hole...
|About||1 week ago|
You take that back! My mother's hole is the widest!
lol, no, your mother is th- sonovabitch
Mom likes the BBC, huh?
I read there were dinosaurs at the centre of the earth.
I wonder if someone dropped his keys in it...
No, I was just a very big headed child
A modern oil rig can hit 1 mile deep and one mile horizontal in 2 weeks
Nah, she prefers CNN
24 years to get 7.5mi Deep for "Bragging Rights" and they could have done it in 5 minutes if they had banged your mom instead.
Can confirm, I crawled out of it
I cook chicken at 450
Yes but they're aiming for voids, and also temperatures which do not fuck with the strength of drill heads.
Its especially easy to dig a hole to China if you start in China.
Would have taken less than 5 minutes to get her pants off.
I've also discovered 2 billion year old plankton in your mom
Also oil rigs mostly drilling through softer sediments. To drill to mantle will be super hard crystalline rock
Crust is thinnest on the ocean floor.
I thought this as well. Maybe they want to expand downwards?
I remember that.
350 ° Fahrenheit... how much is that in science?
So, how deep does the rabbit hole go?
176° C. Or 449K
What a waste of resources. We need to find a way and make interstellar travel reality. Not how deep @OP 's mom is.
What about the hole in Daredevil?
Wouldn't hitting the earthquake core release a shitton of pressure and press it out? Creating the biggest super Vulcano on earth?
Your dad has the deepest hole
Ahhh, good old American / Soviet dick waving.
still not deep enough for your mom
Imagine the ability to take high speed lifts to places, obviously not through the core but could still get a great distance cutting through
I found this to be boring.
Google deep underground military bases and tell me that's a deep hole. Also it's not confirmed so take it with a grain of salt
The heat for thermal energy?
Seems they are doing it to learn more about the planet and the hope to predict earthquakes
Guys, Hawaii is about to explode and the side effects are terrible, do we really want to try and punch another hole into liquid hot magma?
Cant we just go to the ocean floor first?
Imagine using the thermal vents created, and just being propelled by steam
It will take some time to find the entrance. Not sure why you are risking your life for 'that'.
Oil pays for itself. A random hole in the ground with nothing but water and dead bugs don't pay for shit.
What could go wrong
Is it really braggimg rights when everyone's done it though?
The Warriors, 39 years old and still awesome
Yeah compressed Iron Ferrite, ‘cause Captain America here blew the landing and dropped us in a goddamn Iron plate...
Fucking the earth
Tell me again but slower baby
I don’t know about the authenticity, but there’s said to be some really creepy sounds recorded out of that bore hole.
So bugs bunny was wrong when you dug deep enough you would be in China upside down? My plan just went to shit
I'm impressed. And I've seen a great many Russian holes bored on the internet.
2 million year old plankton, what about some strange bacteria that happens to get dug up too and we have no antibodies against it.
Well your mommas so fat that when I want to bone her I have to roll her in flour and look for the wet spot! *Everyone*:OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHH!!
So this is how Japan plans on waking Godzilla?
Do you want Godzilla? Cause this is how you get Godzilla.
And I crawled into it.
I remember hearing that as a kid, and one of the pictures in this clip was used for that story
You typically cook a pizza at higher temperatures.
Assuming America or Russia have big enough dicks to reach the bottom.
We fucking woke up the Balrog, didn’t we.
Drop a penny in it
Mmmm thin crust.
Surely drilling a hole into the centre of the earth might be more likely to cause earthquakes?
I just feel like this isn’t a good idea. No good can come from this.
It doesn't seem too high temp comparing to the melting point of metal...
That's how you release the demigorgan
We’re at 13 days for 18,000’! Woot
Friction would make it even hotter.
Do you want a demon invasion? Cuz this is how you get a demon invasion.
I would imagine that the deeper you go the harder and more difficult it would get.
In most modern drilling, we don’t aim for voids. Solid sandstones, limestones, or shales. Vuggy rock is problematic. Yes, temps < 200deg F
Yes! Once you hit Precambrian metamorphics, your drill bits will not last long. And then time to trip out of hole for bits. Time=$$$$
Outthe door in 4
I'm guessing these guys took core samples too, not just grinding away destroying everything
I love holes
Russia digging to China was probably never going to work anyway
So you also happened to read that at exactly the right moment, having ignored it at first?
Does a black hole have depth?
If Russia wanted to dig a hole to China they could scrape so dirt with their foot on the border and do it....technically.
Ben Affleck woulda punched thru that bitch if, for once in your life, you’d just trust him...
Darn. I wanted to believe.
Just as they predicted
My tin foil hat is telling me this is a thing we should not do. No holes in the Earth's crust, please and thank you.
I beg to differ. My ex wife beat this record by a wide margin.
"How to make a volcano"
But the Earth is flat
Ive always been baffled how they turn the drill heads, ive never seen it really explained
Wait a minute! When the hell did vidyas on imgur get bespoke player controls on mouseover?
WARRIIIIOOOOOORRRRSSS COME OUT TO PLAYYYYYYYYYY
I think we should leave it the fuck alone.
Given that a black hole isn't really a hole in the physical sense (it's just a dense sphere), it can't really have a "depth" per say.
We do. Geothermal energy possibilities aside, more information about the earth's crust could help predict future earthquakes and eruptions.
It’s nice to see humanity finally taking care of rabbits :’)
Sweet Warriors reference.
I roast it at 350 F
As opposed to water vapor, yes.
About 30 speed.
*bottle clanking intensifies*
The hollow earth believers are going to be pissed when it comes through their ceiling
Yes I can!
Like in that Mortal Kombat movie?
So this is it then... this is how humanity ends. The Japanese are going to dig some horrible pit in the ocean and unleash the old ones.
You can heat your home with geothermal! I've always wanted that
No bragging rights to that though. Everyone's had a go
Did they seriously not talk about the fact that they lowered mic down the hole to listen for earths movement and got human screams recorded?
Oh it's WE? I thought someone else was gonna do it.
My cousin has it. If I get the chance to build a house, I will get it too.
With pipes as long as they have, its easy to bend enough to eventually go sideways. I think theyd just use a tilted bit to get a curved tube
So they can finally awaken the sleeping Kaijū and have a purpose for their giant Gundam robots.
i watched a documentary on this i remember some of the workers saying they heard screaming coming from the hole on multiple occasions
Is deep drilling in one of the most tectonically active zones really a good idea?
Given how much it sucks, it's half a hole: a ho.
It's just the lil' scratch. -- Mother Earth
Do you want volcanoes? Because that's how you get volcanoes.
Still one thing Chinese have an advantage in… It's UNFAIR to the USA!
it is OP's mom your talking about here, just saying "hey" would do the trick already
liquid water?!? As apposed to fire water or gas water?
Japan cant even figure out how to get close enough to the reactor core at Fukushima Daiichi to shut off the radioactive water and they>
Heat isn't even the main issue, from math i saw on reddit a few years ago. At over 12km deep they only had a few hundred meters 1/2
Want to do this??? Good luck, chuck
To go before the steel of the 12km plus drilling shaft would break because it can't hold it's own weight anymore 2/2
They heard about water being down there and want to go whale hunting. For research purposes, of course.
By Georgie Wood.
And still the hole is only 0.192% on its way to reach to other side
Do you want Pacific Rim? Because that's how you get Pacific Rim.
This sounds like exciting work story material.
The Warriors. Loved that film. <3
Theyre gonna wake up Cthulhu and be all like "were sorry"
I misread that as Super Deep Butthole.
Don't mine straight down
350 isn’t that hot.. I’m sure we can do much better quicker today. Why not try it again?
This is how it starts.
B . . . @
So we can pop the Earth like a balloon. Duh.
drilling multiple holes to release the pressure in a controlled way could theoretically prevent a eruption
Phew, just throw them down.
That's a quality Ken M. comment right there, +1.
they dug too greedily and too deep
They were just trying to warm up
We could make the drill bit out of old Nokia phones.
Really? I thought it was my ex?
Why not anchor the shaft to the hole's wall in a few points? It could offload it a bit.
You're thinking of a tunnel hunny.
Well, there's solid water and gas water...
this is so boring
Well yes I wrote that in haste gas water is called that but who besides these people say liquid water?
Fun fact: Gas water is steam ....idiot
After your bitch ass yea, that is
Do you go to a restaurant and request liquid water with solid water cubes?
Every time I drive by Van Cortland park I say “ CAn you diiiiig iiiit”
My oven gets to 500 degrees, why can't a drill do 350?
Yes for double penetration
Forget it, they’re gone
so the core can leak out onto the surface.
For all of you wondering why. You’re essentially sitting on top of a huge battery.
Put...put your dick in it.
1500 Melvin, or 25 Kilotherm
I FUCKING HATE NERDS, STOP DOING SHIT JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN, WE'RE NOT MEANT TO BE AT THE CENTER OF THE EARTH YOU LAVA SUCKING NETS
CAN YOU DIG IT...SUCKA...
Wakanda pun is that
Now let it rain money..........No! Not Magma!!! I said Money!!!!!!
Oh alright then....continue dear Japanese friend's
No Japan. That’s how you get Kaiju.
That's what I was thinking. It's not hot at all is relative terms. I have cookware that could laugh at that.
It’s all about could-a, not should-a.
Looking for Stahlman's gas.
When was the last time you lasted 5 min?
I wonder how long it takes to trip the pipe to change drill bits.
5486m for all us non freedom-units people.
Great they will find Godzilla
Sure, drill a hole into an island, Japan. Do you wanna sink it?!
Because the drill uses celsius. Silly drill.
i swear japan you better not release a lava monster or something...
There's a rig here in Alberta punching a 3500m hole evry 5-7 days (once they get going again here after break-up)
The Dwarves tell no tale; but even as mithril was the foundation of their wealth, so also it was their destruction:
they delved too greedily and too deep, and disturbed that from which they fled, Durin's Bane.
We need to make pizza drill bits! And mozzarella cheese motors!
It has to be able to rotate.
i mean... wouldn't any hole dug in china basically be a hole being dug AWAY from china?
which is just 2 holes, connected
Just like the Flintstones cars. That's how they make the core spin.
Well you sound like boring company
Clearly someone should have called a bunch of oil riggers who know all the lyrics to "Leaving on a Jet Plane".
What else? Giant mushrooms and vast caverns with oceans and "skies" lit by static electricity?
How long would it take to get that deep now? How much deeper and what temperature could we withstand with today’s equipment?
Not sure about then, but temperature itself would not be the hinderance with today's steel grades. Many other variables come into play tho
Boris fell in...
New methods of heat treatment and advanced materials sciences. High temperature lubricants. Extremely tough bearings. And more good knowledg
You gotta look up the audio there are people who say its millions of people in hell screaming in torment
It sounds like a million people crying out in torture I couldnt sleep for days after hearing it
Maybe they need a drill sargeant
I definitely will. Had heard of the hole, but not this recording. The above was a joke obviously, but I am intrigued
That’s a movie that couldn’t be made today. It’s ridiculousness works. It just wouldn’t work today
Wouldn't digging into the liquid mantle layer create an instant volcano?
My dad was in the Guinness book for drilling the deepest hole at the time in Oklahoma. Loflin rig 32 iirc
*reads scroll of monster taming*
Generally this question should be asked more often to japan... independently from this topic
Incorrect. The deepest known hole began somewhere in 1960 and became the U.S. economy we known today.
I spent 8 hour shift tripping pipe on a 10000 foot hole. It would take weeks to round trip that bit change.
Which is technically one! The world would be a topographical donut!
Reminds me of journey to the center of the earth
But is she the deepest? Well I'm just the man for the job to find out.
Bender's Big cock?
But the men delved too greedily, and too deep...
Pay for my travel to get there and I will
Nothing seems wrong about this at all...
That looks nothing like my ex
Mr. President, we must not allow...a borehole gap!
OP’s Mom’s hole is deeper.
I'm going, I'm going, I'm going deeper underground...
Your turn, Elon.
Fun Fact... 24 years and 12km deep and that is only 0.002% of the way to the earth's core! Whoa....
Its called a mohole, and there's a few tries at it
So that's where I put my emotions.... Huh.
You want a Balrog? Because this is how you get Balrogs.
Do you want demons? Because this is how you get demons.
Go watch movie "Crack in the World" 1965
Magma is basically oil, right? Also what happens if we spring a leak in the core?
Yes I can
After OPs mom
How would you even place anchors several kilometers deep? And it has to both suport the weight of the shaft, allow rotation and so on.
Can't I just take a shovel? Sounds like a decent plan
Fox creek was 7700m in 14 days.
Maybe they should have made the drill out of cast iron instead of plastic
350C is nothing.
Humans may wear the accolades of great scientists but all we'll ever be is little kids in the sandbox, trying to make the biggest hole.
Or drain our oceans into another chamber.
or a stick of dynamite just to see what happens when it hits the bottom (explodes on hard impact)
You'd have to fill it in and work your way back up.
My college roommate was from China. The 1st thing he asked me if I tried to dig a hole to China when I was a kid. He they always tried to >
Yeah, hey there, sharpies, it's a little too hot down there.
> dig a hole to America.
Having a solid solution to that would be best sooner than later. Hell, 3 of the world's 6 supervolcanos are in North America alone.
Dude, we want to bore into the mantle, not destroy it
Yes! Drill it in Yellowstone please, end it all!
Why do i get this weird feeling that if they hit the mantle or the core that they will somehow cause irreversible planet-wide damage?
Oil basted with Cajun seasoning and a pinch of salt?
They need to restart the spinning outer core
Guess we'll die *shrug*
My ass did feel warm...
Ever wait in line at an amusement park? Too many people around these days
Release the kaiju!
At least there isn't sword guys here
Pretty sure that title belongs to OPs mom
To be honest, I don’t think that‘s ever gonna happen, because earth inner layers (esp. the liquid ones) are just too hot
They're not drilling into magma
You can't drill into magma
They can do way more than that
We beat the Russians to heaven and the Russians beat us to hell.
When Satan pops out I don't want to hear any complaining.
Okay there is NO WAY that they didn’t know what they were doing when they named it “super deep borehole”
wait a minute.. isn't this how krypton died? they dig into their planet's core
I dunno I think most people think the President IS a borehole.
Pretty sure this is now defunct
Two billion years old. Nuff said.
Unlikely. That would be a massive engineering challenge. Just drilling it is hard enough. Maybe they did much higher up?
In Soviet Russia... Hole drills you!
next to the one between your mothers legs
Point taken but how would of they got the chemical results and other knowledge from ground up material?
Isn't this the first half of all dwarven downfall stories? Dig too deep? Ring a bell?
Meh, I already seen y'ma's vajay.
if they just put their ear to it the wind could whistle and even sound like screams, but I’ve heard the audio of the “screams” its fake
The fuck is the earthquake core?
Because you're ignorant
LIQUID water! Boy, if only we could get our hands on some of that!
Haven't met my ex, she's the biggest hole on earth
Or a Casio F91W. It might still work.
Mantle is not liquid
Did anyone else get hungry for pie when they read the word “crust”?
Can't they just whip out their dicks? Much cheaper.
did we watch the same gif? it literally says there were more reasons than just bragging rights.
Did no one inform Japan of the Balrogs down there?
Petroleum engineer here to clear a common misconception- Almost never are there voids, we nearly always are aiming for solid rock...
The rock is often quite hard. My wells are about 3 miles deep, we drill an 800' curve, then drill 2 miles out. Temperatures around 360F
I've seen deeper
The oil and/or gas and/or water is present in the pore spaces of the rock.
East Texas oilflieds.
Bruce Willis could do it.
Is this the same hole where they supposedly heard the screams from people in hell?
Time for some trade sanctions.
Well they got to 12 km and Earth is 6341 km thicc so I don't think there's a problem
Yeah...I ... Uh....agree.
what if they brought another shovel that was in the freezer overnight
Ha that is exactly what it is.
"That's what he said."
But unless you go very far it's also a hole to China.
Just some other part of China.
Yeah. Finding a way to prevent Yellowstone from erupting should be a scientific priority. It’s already over due to blow. World killer there.
As a Doctor Who fan, the idea of these holes they’re digging terrifies me...
Wrong.. Use the deepest MAN MADE hole on earth. There are much deeper holes
wowzers. Polymer or Invert?
The video says "digging to the liquid mantle". Hence my question...
I knew there was a yo mama joke in here somewhere
Imgur supports video with player controls now? Fucking finally!
If they go any deep they might hit my self-esteem.
The exact same movie? Maybe not, but it’s only about as ridiculous/campy as a musical, and those are still around. (Cont’d)
It’d probably have to be more comedic or more artsy/smarter/Oscar-y in order to grab a niche nowadays, but the core concepts could work.
You're right that core is more useful than "cuttings", but you can still know a great deal about the rock.
Led to some of the best shit of the 20th century! Space technology, the internet, and a really deep hole!
What if they drill too far and nonstop lava comes spewing out and doesnt stop and we all burn
Huh, it sure did. But it's incorrect, earth's mantle is solid rock that is malleable due to the high temps and pressures
Why does the term "liquid water" bother me.....
What if it hits a point and the earth pops and shoots around the universe like a balloon?
Pop goes the planet.
i know which one you're talking about that one is fake. but iirc the audio for this one was never released to the public
this guy gets it
you can get really close if you divide in half, subtract a tenth of the original F and then add 32.
This account posts a lot of Seeker content
Banging your mom is more like takin one for the team
"Can you dig it" should have ended with a ? Not a !
I know that. I've taken geology courses. I just assumed that since they were drilling into ocean plates, they meant to puncture it.
Reign of fire...
Cookies. Ambient temperatures hit enough to bake cookies.
so if you drill a hole and got out in china... flatearthers will argue that china is on the other side of the disk lol :-D
Yea because that was a hoax. Hope this helps
No because the word crust makes me think of pizza like a normal person
This is how demons escape from hell.
The science involved. Also, Japan, at this planning stage, took a piss on US and USSR. They're going to use the water to cool the drills.
"it's my first time"
Admittedly I never did basin geo, I preferred hard rock microscopy and geochem :v
Bilquis, daughter of the south
It doesn't have to melt the drill bit to cause it to wear out, just soften it up. Drill bit wouldn't care if you just put it in the oven.
Drill bit *would* care if you tried to disintegrate rocks with it in the oven and under seriously high pressure.
See, this makes more sense! Thanks, I was really confused about it. Forgot about pressure and such
earth core, my phone just fucking loves to throw in words, i use swiftkey
Not center. The center of the earth isn't a few miles away
Might want to go back to school
Then they end up unleashimg some kind of creature from it's slumber place, it won't be good...
It's a geological term. Due to the heat and pressure at that depth, standard surface states of water do not apply. Similar to when we 1/2
refer to liquid water on Mars or Titan. We know there's water beneath the crust, but the fact that it's liquid is a surprise.
Oh my God. What if I'm gay for Tolkien?
do you then even dig it to china or already away form it? Wouldn't you need to build a hallow tower to "dig" it further.
"watching a the Warriors" What?
And now I want a Pizza.
It's relative. To the Sun? Sure. To the Oven? I know of none that surpass it.
Ok, I need that figure
And I can dig a hole 1 foot deep in 2 seconds. What has any of that got to do with going 7miles down?
Take the F number then Minus 30 and then half it. Close enough for most things.
Geo here, Permian Basin. Where are your fields?
I was watching the 1979 movie The Warriors.
Am I the only one that took away fro. This the fact that we are living on a giant burning ball.
359 degrees 7.5 miles down... with how big the earth is.... that's basically right next to us. I knew it was there. Just...fuck that's close
the water that was squeezed out is referred to Zam Zam water in islam. Ramadan Mubarak
Drilling pulls tons of samples
Dunno. ADR 1500S super spec rig
stir the kaiju so they have a reason to build giant mecha
Yeah, those ADR rigs are fast....with the right crew.
def Op Mom though..
I’ve always been curious how far you can deep in the Sahara before it’s no longer “sand”
Or Kaiju. :/
Well, please educate me on your research when you drilled into the Earth's core
Is unobtanium easy tio obtain?
All money goes west. I'm Haynesville / Bossier.
Omg, I just read that back! I did not mean it that way, honest!
