Looks amazing how does this place compare? It looks fuckin great
Go to Luling City Market, skip the lick.
In what city? Texas is a big place.

NOPE! the pain those animals went through, but enjoy your heart disease and high cholesterol.
Looks like salt lick eh
Why are you like this?
Driftwood. Can’t get more Texan than a town name like that’s
Been there. It's heaven
Oh my sweet mother of god. The meat sweats-a-coming.
There is one of those less than a mile from my house in Round Rock!
Would you mind heading through UK on the way?
Sure. I'm still waiting for that guy, but I don't mind a detour.
Basically a small town outside of Austin, I was there last weekend. If you ever go, get the pork ribs, you will not regret it
The one time I had Texas BBQ. I really got excited because I am a huge travel channel guy that watches man vs food. I went to Air Force 1/
Basic military training (BMT). Finished BMT went to San Antonio to get Texas BBQ that I really want to eat. Went to a BBQ restaurant 2/
Order some BBQ brisket, waited 45 minutes. During that time I see all this wonderful Hot BBQ that everyone was getting. 3/
I am not ok with this
BBQ Pulled pork, brisket, sausage, wings, etc. I finally received my order and started to chow down on it. 4/
It was cold. I really felt side for hyping myself up seeing all this hot BBQ for years and for the last 45 minutes only to received 5/
My favorite place to eat in Texas! Sadly it’s been nearly 8 years since I’ve eaten there.
I glad I’m not a vegetarian or vegan.
So much for the "no porn" rule...
Oh, I’m hungry now. Damn, that looks amazing!
Hell yes, proud Texan here. Ate a whole slab of ribs there this one time.
Im so Texan I always read that as Ft. Worth...
You know he won't be ready. You're going to have to sit outside and honk the horn for an hour...
I'm a vegan
Salt Lick is trash
I'm here in texas texas y'all can stay here at my place.
I’ve never been to Texas but I bet theres a few towns outside of Austin
I live 10 minutes from thay place! Damn good bbq. If youre in the area check out Shugabees and Blacks Bbq too!
I’m with you! I live in Atlanta...I’ll be waiting out front
As someone who lives in fort Worth I feel that pain.
Hell yeah. I live half an hour from this place. I move people's houses all around Austin. I'll have to stop there next time I'm in Driftwood
I know the Salt Lick when I see it. It’s so good. And yes maybe a little biased so sue me.
If you're in DFW, they're opening one in Grapevine sometime late this year.
Great place, you can get it served family style too!
Near the Austin area
Been there done that. Don't hate me, just join me.
God bless Texas
Detour planned. Got it in the GPS.
Tl/dr- Air Force boot is disappointed by shoving cold meat in mouth.
There's one in driftwood, there's also one up here in Round Rock. It's pretty darn good.
I feel bad for the pain you've gone through to make you such a miserable cunt.
Central Texas Style BBQ in Pearland. *starts debate of favorite Texas bbq joints*
Its worth it. A pretty drive and great food!
I've been there, I can assure you it does.
I've never been to the one in RR, how does it compare?
I'm guessing everyone invited either rolls up on a personal scooter or a golf cart. Not that there's anything wrong with fat.
It's at least 90% of the original - so it's pretty good. I hesitate to say it's "as good as," but it seems reasonably close.
Amateur hour...Google "Asado Uruguayo" or "Mercado del Puerto" to see proper BBQ...
Yeah or kruez in lockhart. Or, whats the one in bastrop? Is it also called city market?
In all seriousness, Where did you go?
I've got a couch y'all can sleep on! It pulls out, in case you were wondering.
That is almost vegan for Argentinian standards
I’ve been there it is amazing!!!! Great wine too
Man, gimme 5 minutes there and I'll do unimaginable things to that meat... Now I sounded like @op's mom
Looks straight out of a cartoon
$26 for all you can eat. It's absolute bliss until you have to stand up with your newly acquired 15 pounds.
How can it smell if it doesn’t have olfactory glands
Down by the creek
There are. Just make sure you use GPS and stay out of Austin proper. Unless you’re armed the hippies may get you.
And Round Rock.
May the ghost of Sam Houston haunt your every meal for those blasphemous words.
Whaaaaa???? Please be true.
Can also confirm
As a Texan born and bred I approve of this meat!
So much good BBQ here in Texas.
Thats so 220* hot its almost slutty.
Planning on going this summer from ontario. Meet me in austin
His mom's tit dispensed soymilk.
As a Texan, yes it does. You should go there. It's BYOB though, so BYOB if you want alcohol.
Man. I was born and raised in CT my whole life. Have been around the world once. But have yet to go to the beautiful country of Texas
Pick me up in Toronto
I'm not saying it's bad BBQ, just that it's not at the same level. See below 1/3
Found the vegan...
ill have the vegetarian sausage
Pretty place and good BBQ but it doesn't beat Q39 in Kansas.
It’s fun to see but BBQ is overrated compared to others in central TX.
BLACK'S BBQ in Lockhart, TX. BEST smoked turkey I've ever had. Cuts like butter! Everything is amazing, but the turkey, the turkey is best!
Please be scratch and smell, please.. nop! Deceived.
I believe that it was County Line
Born and raised in south detriot
It's ok. There are much better places within an hour or two though. Not Franklins. Fuck Franklins.
Come get me in Quebec! Also while in Texas we should enjoy a drink and a nice band at the Back porch bar in Port Aransas!
Salt lick. Bbq... its amazing!!!. Have two locations. One in round rock. And other is in driftwood tx. If I'm not mistaken just opened austi
I feel sorry for you! I went to TX, sunburnt badly, didn’t feel like eating anything hot, didn’t get my nice Tx BBQ ;(
Man I got food poisoning last night from some bad steak, but this makes me hungry again.
I didn't even know BBQ half chickens was a thing, and I live in the south... I feel so damn ashamed at myself.
Is it a restaurant? Asking for a friend
Hey, I’m om a diet here
Were you dropped on your head as a child?
With all the brisket, ribs, and chicken, I'm surprised anybody would go for the kielbasa. Am I missing something?
It sure is. South west of Austin, tx. With all you can eat for $25.... It's amazing
That’s the America I love!
Been to the Salt Lick. It's quite good.
I can imagine the food would taste great, but pretty dry.
Salt Lick forever!! Several hour detour worth a fees hours relaxing here with family & friends!
Southside inn Bastrop, i will drive 2 extra gours to go to luling, and dont try the one in Htown
This is Salt Lick in Austin I believe. It’s BYOB. I have been drunk there once.
So what's your beef?
Every other BBQ is Bullshit. There can be only one. Texas is BBQ mecca.
Been there. Ate that.
Swing through Maine on your way!
How big is it? This is turning into a class field trip!
It's a BYOB restaurant too, so bring all the alcohol you want. They'll even ask you if you want a bucket of ice to put your beers in
I meant to say sarcastically that there are a lot of towns outside is Austin, what town exactly lol
Been there D-licious!
I wish we Germans would have BBQs like that. But Nooo! It is full of beer and pretty girls
Driftwood, Southwest of Austin.
The Salt Lick!! The best BBQ experience I've had in a BBQ place!
Haha on any given day some has the best. It's not anyone's fault really.
I live just a few minutes south of Round Rock where this is. Its really fucking good. I go once a month.
Don't be fooled by the sister locations! Go to the one in Driftwood!
I have been to both, but go to RR more due to me being in Austin. Its almost as good. If Driftwood is a 10, Round Rock is a 8.75
I live down the road about 30 min from there. Gotta stay away so I don’t go broke lol
PETA. People Eating Tasty Animals
They sell beer and wine right next door. It’s still on property. Order food, go get a bucket of beers, and enjoy!
That’s the difference between me and your couch
Enjoy your decreased life span
You are only half right
Always SOME fuck who has to order the sausage
Meh. I’ve had better.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
There used to be a farm out back. The trick was to tell visitors that they could pick their own cow.
This makes me hard
If your going to be in the Austin area, stop in Taylor and go to Louie Mueller Barbecue. Best BBQ I've had in Texas.
Hey! Salt Lick! I live 15 minutes away from there! It IS delicious!
Go to blacks bbq. Salt like meh.
Stiles Stitch is much better for the trip.
I bet its hot as fuck and smoky as fuck too...
Went with a few buddies, each of us 220lb+ powerlifters. Drank and ate 'til we couldn't move anymore and realized they have wine next door..
it looks good but it's dry af
I think i just got gout
I live a few miles away. I can go Whenever. I. Want.
If you’re close to Stephenville go try Hard 8
I don't why there are vegans... meat is heaven <3.<3
There are far more better, fresh, bbq joints in Texas. Looks good but doesn’t compare
A perfect texan meal for 2
San Antonio here, where is that?
Imagine the grease in the air. Gotta wash your hair just for walking downwind.
Kreutz market, Black’s or Smitty’s in Lockhart, TX is far superior. About 2 hours away from Saltlick. Worth the drive.
Can confirm, plus on occasion a tardis can be seen in the parking lot
I agree and waves from kyle!
Omg they are opening one in grapevine and my body is so ready
I approve this message.
Seconded. Driftwood, Texas. Middle of nowhere but the best damn BBQ.
That really doesn’t sound too bad tbh
I live down the street from Salt Lick. Let me know when you 5 min away.
I just commented about the word carnist infuriating me ... but I’d be a carnist for this.
mmmmmm dead animal flesh
If you go to the Driftwood one, bring a cooler with your own beer, since its a dry county.
Hello, fellow Austin people!
It’s just as good but Salt Lick is a touristy Q place. I’m doing Franklin’s tomorrow. Famous but freaking legit!
Some of the best BBQ I've ever had is there. Also has a winery!
That guy was an asshole.
Did you... take it back to them and ask for a hot serving? You can do that, I swear.
Looks like dicks hanging from the ceiling. Poor guys
I eat meat and this makes me think of a version of hell.
Their catch phrase is "You can smell our pits for miles!"
Salt lick isn't even close to the best BBQ in. Lockhart's in Dallas is amazing.
i just had a hoagie and now my stomach growls for this
Same, just a few minutes away. I've never been. I feel like...such a loser.
Grapevine here I go!!!
no one asked
Been there a bunch. Mustard BBQ sauce is epic. BYOB. Always drink from a classy paper bag. $20ish for ayce BBQ with sides and leftovers!
the pain makes it more delicious
Get the brisket!!! Ask for burnt ends
Actual picture of heaven!
Kc bbq is king.
The whole county? That's a thing? Dear god I would die
I was there just this past weekend for a graduation damn it! Is it there on that strip near the Capitol?
Elgin tx has Southside and Meyers 30 minutes from Austin
There's also one on the south side of Austin
Clearly he was.
It’s in Austin. It’s amazing!
Can't go wrong with the ribs there pork or beef.
Yeah, come down here. Just mind the mosquitos, rattlesnakes, hobos, and shit drivers.
This is one of my favorite places. Seriously amazing food.
It’s in driftwood tx. Just south of Austin! And yes it’s as amazing as it looks! They even have their own winery!
Anyone elses saliva production just increase tremendously..?
It isn't, that pit is away from tables, it's good food good atmosphere...it's the Disneyland of BBQ I tell yah hwat
Salt lick, TX
on FM967 west of Buda just before you get to Driftwood. 60-90min depending on how you route. Mayhap faster if I35 isn't ass.
If you're making the drive, why didn't you go to Snow's?
Nah, it's Onion Creek. Never heard anyone call that one anything else.
It hasn't been the same since the original owners retired and their son took over. He turned it super profitable but the quality was lost.
In that part of Texas it's easy to come by. Snow's though... Louie's Muller's is close, but Snow's...
The Salt Lick is More of a social place then for excellent BBQ
But I-35 is always shitty .-.
Grease nuthin, you won't smell anything but the smoke. They're not frying.
Don't go back! Stick to your memories. Go to Louie Muller's or one of the lockhart options.
Good Texas beef sausage is amazing.
Top 3 for sure, definitely the most accessible of the top ones I've been to.
With ya! Pick me up in MI!
Central Texas smoked beef sausage has been an escalating arms race for the past 100 or so years. It's damn fine.
Only an hour from Austin proper, maybe less. All three of those are awesome and different.
Best sausage around.
Salt Lick is overrated. There is a lot of MUCH better BBQ in/around Austin. Sure looks awesome though.
I drive by it everyday and can confirm. Valentina’s is the best bbq around Austin though, and very unique stuff too.
I can feel my cholesterol rising just looking at it. Glorious.
Honestly I was disappointed when I went. May have just been a bad batch of brisket that day, everyone says it’s the best
Agreed. I had it for the first time a few weeks ago and was really pleasantly surprised. My go-to is Terry Black’s
Yeah I’m with you, I get a link every time I get bbq anywhere
If you're around DFW, hit up Hard Eight. It's fucking amazing. But you'll smell like BBQ for days.
Two words. MEAT PIT. Get yourself down there with some friends and beer and have a meat fest.
This is why I will never be vegan.
Do you have anything Vegan?
It's hard for me to judge coopers, I've never been able to order anything other than that unbelievable pork chop. Every time I hit Llano...
And upstate NY! I'll bring beer!
Well, god knows I love smoking a good sausage. I will have to head down there sometime.
If you already got to Austin go to the Driftwood one, no the Round Rock one
The pic related one is in Driftwood, about 30 min drive from Capitol.
It expensive of course because they can and you will still pay and be happy to do so.
Ah alright, I'll have to check it out some time
San Marcos represents
Imagine cleaning up that BBQ afterwards.
Wasn’t intended. I just know some people get disappointed but they can just walk next door and get it there too.
If it's the two fat younger guys (the grandsons of the current owner?) then yeah, they are pretty bad. If there's an older guy it's amazin
yes, and still I think just looking at it gave me some obesity related sicknesses.
One of my favorites- can’t go wrong with anything at Salt Lick
Oh, yes, it does. They have billboards that say "You can smell our pits from miles away"
First time I see a " cash only" place in the US. I thought you all paid everything with card or check!
Upvote for Hard Eight. However, it doesn't hold a candle to Cattleack, Pecan Lodge, or Lockhart Smokehouse.
...and we've just found my only reason to enter Texas.
still waiting for GIFS that make scents
I was just there last month for work. They had some damn good food.
Eaten there. 5/7.
i mean.. okay..
Boston here, i'll go, ill also pay for gas
I got a bus for the trip, everyone pile in when I swing by!
Reminds me of Hard Eights in Dallas
