Next on 'how it's made'
Are people really that salty to downvote a post like this? Wtf is wrong? Do you need a hug?
Yea, I think they might need hugs, bud.
Yeah... they are so uncratefull....
I enjoy these posts.
How do you color it and keep smooth? I though injection mold material can't be just colored.
There's a special paint we purchase that gets mixed in the material. We have to reds two blues two purples three greens two greys white etc
There just not cool enough to appreciate newborn crates
Maybe they like their milk in a bag...
Then how do you ship the bags?
My father was killed by milk crates you insensitive prick
Post has 7 downvotes. Comment has 7 downvotes. Hmm..
Canadians are weird. I dated this girl told me about bagged milk. I didn't believe her...
Sir, they are not posts, they are crates as stated above
The thumbnail made me think this was a Dr. Who post. +1 anyway.
Is it really super illegal to steal these? Like the warnings on the side say...
In a big sack
I would rather a million of these over dead person sob stories or family members with cancer stories
Ahh, injection molding. That stink lives with you the rest of your life. -polyethylene blown film extrusion engineer 10 years
duh. the stork brings it.
Why are so many of them black huh. The black crate used to keep the white milk safe.
Bagged milk is shipped in milk crates too. They're more a cube than the ones pictured, but otherwise the same.
Had to come back and upvote this.
Expected a joke, got How It's Made. I will always be okay with this outcome.
So if liquid melted plastic is vacuum pumped into a steel mold, what makes it possible to have defective results? Just curious.
Need a post of the milk crate rainbow man!
I love this kinda shit, neat!
30 years ago my entire flat was full of these. I had yellow coffee table, bed frame, seating, shelves, and a console in my truck
The shafing of having to birth 3000 a day.. ouch
No, clearly they need a milk crate
Hoping you have a respirator and sealed room for your PPE. Definitely some cool shit but take care of yourself!
Omg that's the best comment yet. I wish I could give you multiple upvotes! Can't wait for the new season!
All I ever smell now is melting plastic. Here's hoping I never have a stroke I won't have the warning sign!
So how were the first milk crates made? The ones you ground up? WHICH CAME FIRST, THE MILK CRATE OR THE MILK CRATE SEED
We make them too
Nope. It's open air facility with little to no ventilation lol. Crazy Russian company
Dum dum dum do da, k*tsk. In this episode of How Its Made we take a look at milk crates, rugs and bacon. *Skips to the bacon part*
If the psi drops too much the mold is incomplete. Split handles, too much flashing, etc
Great, now I have a place to keep my vinyl albums. Also, what’s a vinyl album?
Yeah. $2000 fine plus a year in jail.... I was shocked
I've been pressing caterpillars in their cocoons to steel moulds as per your post but I end up with squishy bug bits instead of milk crates
for some reason the "like a caterpillar in a cocoon" part made me think of the Sherlock Holmes movie :D
People upvote what they like, downvote what they don't
Are you thinking what I'm thinking B1?
Milk crates saved me tons of money during college years ...instead of shelves and closets.. best thing.
In a milk crate?
Love that damn show
And here I thought a flying giant cow pooped them out
Which came first. The milk crate or the defective milk crates?
Yes, yes I do
They’re made out of fruity pebbles.
Who else thought this was going to be milk crate porn.
Oh you! These are the comments I stick around for. :3
+1 for milk crate seeds
Milk crates? Did you mean chairs?
Well its more like about deciding if the content is interesting, if its not you downvote, some people think its not
Ehm... You don't want MY nudes, and I don't know how to send you some 1940s (non-pinterest) couture. So have an upvote instead!
Milk crates are made from defective milk crates...but what were the FIRST milk crates made from?!
Do i upvote or downvote
And then he had a stroke. Rest in peace.
Not paint, it’s concentrated colorant made up of numerous different heavy metals.
Chairs, foot rests, coffee tables, end tables, car seats, misc storage devices. These damn things are so useful.
YES - bring back job stories
That smell reminds me of going to the zoo as a kid and getting molded gorillas and elephants from that 2000deg machine
We actually make an oversized crate specifically for vinyl records actually
It stays smooth through flights on a screw inside the barrel mixing the resin and colorant at melt temp before injection.
Totally worth the risk, really. They are hands down the best containers there is, last forever. Impossible to buy legal real ones.
I used to be able to fit all my vinyls into milk crates, in the 80’s. Has the size changed?
It etches itself into everything. I am convinced it is an entity.
There is a “resonance time” or time the resin stays in the barrel before injection that allows for a consistent smooth blend .NPE 2018
Van dorn? Are those magnetic plattens I spy?
It isn’t slag its purge and it’s just degraded resin that sat too long in the barrel. That is just abs.
Other highly engineered resin can release toxic gasses or even explode such as nylon, acetal, and pvc.
mold-a-rama machines rocked!
Upvoted the fuck outa you @OP, I worked injection molding and it's a bitch.
I'm not looking forward to this summer. It's going to be so fucking hot
could we get you to uh... video yourself running your hands through the plastic pieces, with the caption fresh pixels? for reasons.
I'll work on that
It's averaging high 90s where I am and I work outside now. Sometimes while wearing tyvek. I feel you man. I do.
Ah yes, Chef benches!
But Canadians put there bagged milk in milk crates still
Think you should mention why it's illegal to take them and how much money goes into the theft nationwide! Quite amazing really.
I'm selling them cheap
Absolutely I recorded it earlier but the file was corrupted. I will make a gif
Almost as cheap as the ones behind the quick-e-mart! :D
Saving the link though, love milk crate containers, had one mounted to my harley.
Technically it is
YOU'RE A PLASTIC SLAG! ????
Thanks for the link- this may come in handy some day!
Still do! The kids and I get one every chance we can :D
those extra long ones -- sweeeeeet
2000 to 3000... a day... from just you... WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY ALL GOING?!?!
serious question sir : Is that super bad for you to be smelling that all day?
A) Not all of Canada has bagged milk. B) Bagged milk still comes in crates. From your friendly neighborhood Canuck
"MELTED 2000° GORILLAS?!!?? The hell kind of zoo did you.....oh. Ok. That makes more sense."
Or more goddamn phone dump spam. "Hahaha! One image in this batch of 50 was good!" *ding* post upvoted. Same technique as spam.
The really cool part is different plastics smell different when you melt process them
mold, improvised repairs or "improvements," trying to hurry the job too much...
Neat! But doesn't melted plastic give you cancer?
From someone who is working in a materials department of an injection plant. Send help the fumes are getting to me
@PunStripedSuit are you based in the US on the WC by any chance? I’m in 3D printing and would love to see your facility.
I do 2-3 k a day. There are four other guys pumping out 1-2k per shift each. We ship worldwide
I worked on injection machines for car parts! It was always fun cleaning out the barrels
I'm looking for some shower heads, know anyone?
Why are they rectangles not squares? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR COUNTRY?
I need a hug. I didn’t downvote, but I need a hug.
Update: got a hug. From wife, not OP. But still.
You caught me
What happens to the defects, do they all get destroyed or do you get to keep some
I've kept a few platic totes that ahd awesome marbling patterns. Otherwise we grind them down into pixels
Are you really so self contrived to not realize that your post isnt interesting? especially on a site like imgur where anything can b posted
I know but that means there's millions of them coming from your place alone and it's not like they're fragile things.
Probably. My sense of smell has dwindled a bit.
you make........or the machine makes?
Yes! Polyethylene, polypropylene and PET all have unique stinks.
I make the machine make. I then inspect and finish
EVA really stinks it up. The worst by far has to be printed PVC though. Recycling that and separating the ink from the plastic was brutal.
I did this for a while. Once saw a guy touch the heater band on the sprue with a crow bar to clear off burning resin. He regretted it.
You ever do calandering? It's hot also and the mills will fuck you up
"Plastic slag" was also the nickname we gave the rich easy girl in high school.
In Wisconsin you can get bagged milk too. Cartons and jugs are more prevalent, but bagged milk seems to be a rising trend here.
ok so its a shared process then, machines have feelings too.
It’s here in Minnesota, too. I am not a fan, personally.
Does anyone make them with the metal band that goes around the top perimeter anymore? those were the best.
You know there's those employees that get away with not"getting every nook and cranny" just enough to keep their jobs.
Strawberry Jam, bicycle chains, and yardsticks.
Ah want to come help me fix my plastic car panel you have a knack for melted pladtic
Even if you can’t smell it don’t breathe that air! Cancer sucks bro!! Take care of yourself..(just want my fellow ppl to survive)
Cool, but I hate these. Carrying these kinda hurts and I get cut occasionally
I could use some of those for my records
Umm .. that would be the toxins.. it’s called petroleum. What plastic is made of?
TIL milk crates are made out of Fruity Pebbles. Milk is then transported in the crates to be used on Fruity Pebbles, the circle of life.
Warning sign: when the scent goes away.
Oh dear. My husband has like 20 in the shed. He gets really excited every time he finds a new one. I’m not gonna tell him, he’ll be crushed.
Okay but the real question is, what came first, the milk crate or the milk crate seeds?
90% of my college furniture was milkcrates and planks.
That was a great episode
Upvoted due to originality, humor, and a goddam good camera
Wait so if you guys are shredding old and useless crates to make newer ones...what was the first one made of?
I stand corrected.
I think people just want more gifs, less pics
NIce try -- it's defective milk crates *all the way down*...
As much as I appreciate this (I love How It's Made)...people just don't get too excited over milk crates.
IDK why but my dad has tons of these things.
Milk crates, huh? When I was a kid they were called furniture. We were not wealthy.
They always have the most random combinations of stuff for their episodes.
Nice I work in in mold labeling
I love these crates, unfortunately I haven't seen one in my city (in Asia); I'd love to have them in trunk of our car, keep goods stable.
Those shits hurt like hell when they hit you no matter how slight. They’ll ruin your day
Mixing of colors. OP even posted pics. The third R is recycle.
That means they aren't deburred properly. You see where I talk if stray hair? That's to prevent that
Pixel harvest looks mighty fine
Is that the deal? What's what it takes? If I downvote you then I'll get a hug?
The bagged milk is either 3L or 4L, and is a large thin bag, with three clear sealed bags of milk. Large bags are put in crates and shipped
Or the insanely annoying weightwatchers.com invasion of imgur with weight loss stories?!
