Very fucking cool.
I hope the probe puts on some strong sun screen. It could get a sunburn.
My name's on that.. :)
Yep and my name is on it(digital database you could sign up for a while ago)
Mine as well
It's going at night obvs.
I hope it's your username
“That’s hot” The probe probably
It would be cooler if it went at night...
Space and stuff, love it! I hope smart people from NASA knows that the probe can come to sun only at night so it wont burn
I wonder how long before astronauts walk on the sun
Mine as well!
maybe later this year, in the winter when the sun is turned off much longer.
Anyone interested in this, check out the science behind the heat protector, the satellite will only reach 44 degrees or something silly
Duhhh NASA isn't stupid enough to send it at daytime.
PARKER! I need PICTURES! Pictures of the SUN!
All I can think of is Cillian Murphy in Sunshine
Can we send Trump to research for Space Force?
As a totally real NASA chief scientist, I can confirm our next rocket will land the first people on the sun, folks. During the winter.
Why not just fly there at night when the sun is off?
To fell connected to something you have an intrest in.
Come on, why not on sunday!
Pence too. And Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Betsy DeVos, Devin Nunes, and so on.
We all do!
NASA; soon to be under the umbrella of Space Farce.
Why not go at night?
Please don't find life, please don't find life, please don't find life, please don't find life, please don't find life
I have a friend named Parker. Should he be worried about being probed?
But hopefully not smoking hot
I filled out the online form to put my name on the probe. I'm going to burn up with the probe. 1/2
Then I entered the names of my enemies so that they can burn in hell with me. 2/2
Oh! Mine too! I'd forgotten about htis
It can get hot but not let the smoke out hot. - scientists handing the probes keys to NASA.
But why aren't they sending it in winter?
Also only space probe named after a living person
Isn’t basically every speed in space supersonic, as sound doesn’t travel (as much as in air) and so the speed of sound is really low? (Joke)
They need to put a smore in it too
Asking the real questions
Nice letting us know, but downvote for NowScience plug. This was probably buried under 1000 posts about meat alternatives.
Because it will be in Australia then.
I want to upvote your post, but as of now, you are sitting at 69, so please accept this comment instead.
Actually the probe will only reach 85F inside.
One little mind blowing fact: to get to the sun you need to slow down from earths speed around it 30 km/s to 0, that's 30 km/s deltaV 1/
2511 degrees F Cozy
To leave the solar system you need to travel at 42 km/s. If you accel. in the same direction earth is heading that's only 12 km/s deltaV 2/
So it's actually easier to leave the solar system than get to the Sun
They're going to find that at the core of the sun, where they expected hydrogen fusion, it's actually SSJ12 Goku, screaming in rage.
They could use Kimi "Iceman" Räikkönen's sweat to cool the whole thing. If they could just get any....
TO THE SUUUN!!!
Finally we can throw away that stupid standard solar model
What is supersonic in space?
Space force all the way!!!
Still waiting for the Headline: NASA sends probe to Uranus.
What is that in scientific units?
ITA AT 96
Would have been cooler if OP used scientific units for a, you know, ... scientific topic.
Finally, the first step toward colonizing the sun has begun!
Why can't we have promoted posts like THIS?
Dutch Proverb: "Gekken en dwazen zetten hun namen op deuren en glazen." do with it what you will.
You fools, now the sun has a hit list
But why not launch on SUNday?
Surely it should launch on SUNday!?!?!
At least 12.
You said hot probe snicker
Will they launch at night? Lol
There's good evidence to suggest solar weather plays a huge role in earthquakes. This is an awesome thing
Best use of word art in yeas.
All they had to do was wait one fucking day to do it on a Sunday.
It won't get there right away. It'll be winter on the sun by the time it gets there
Then we can legitimately tell the sun to go fuck itself for the recent weather
Sure, just take our tax dollars and throw them into the fire!
4 million miles from the sun and it’s still that hot? Damn
How long's the trip?
They missed an opportunity by not launching it on Sunday.
It's always sunny on the Sun.
Hopefully this will one day bring us closer to landing on the surface of the sun.
"NASA pays Russia to launch probe into Uranus"
it's always night on the dark side of the sun
the shadows point in the wrong direction on the sun
Why the heck wouldn’t they launch on a Sunday?
Someone should tell them the sun is nuclear.
But not that they cancel it last minute to food to some dude on mars
Hell yea, we're not alone.
It should try to go at night when the sun is asleep. Much safer.
Even the miniaturised scale of KSP has taught me that getting to the sun has insane dV requirements.
I mean... Won't your name just eventually burn up in the sun? It's not like they're bringing it back.
Not always. Ever heard of solar eclipse?
Yao gonna destroy the sun now..... Shit
Where did they store the lions for the trip?
You can just favorite GIFs in comments my dude :)
Wanted it further up not favorite. But thanks
Now it’s past 69, are you gonna upvote it now?
Right but it's not that humid, so I still think it's warmer here a bit.
Why did I read it like a monster truck hype guy? SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! COME LOOK AT THIS THING ON SUUNNDAAAAAYY!!!!
My name is on it too, I just have to change my name to Parker Solo Probe (or NASA)
That's kinda hot
It will be the fastest man made object flying at 700,000 km/h when it is closest to the sun
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
When will it reach the Sun?
Not to nitpick or anything, but... in space... every speed is supersonic :P
Umm. I dont know who's sun that is. Outside our atmosphere our star is white.
that's a bad thing?
SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY
Idk if subsonic and supersonic should be used to describe speed in a place where there is no sound
This my friend is the beginning of the end
It's whose, not who's, and that is our sun in the picture
Awww, if I knew that earlier I would have asked for a lift.
in this case...why not?
I think so. Once the sun knows your name it will have too much power over you.
Maybe they'll send it from Scotland, the sun never shines there.
I think I did too, but I don't remember. I probably did.
Lol it transmits at 20KB/s
WHAT DO YOU SEE!?!
Pretty sure there's no pokemons in the sun.
It won't, the closest approach is 3.7million miles
Perfect usage. Super green.
Parker! Forget Spider-Man, I want pictures of the Sun on my desk by Monday!
Not true, that's only if you want to travel a straight line path to the sun. The actual path will be eliptical and will require a much
less delta V to achieve the eliptical orbit ranging from inside Mercury's orbit to outside Venus orbit.
I know a few people I'd like to launch into the sun.
Damn, that's quite impressive.
Any concern of it slingshotting around the sun and going back in time?
Mine too! We going to sun baby
Could they send Trump and his "Space Force" next?
Took me a sec to realize the 1377C in the 3rd pic are supposed to be degrees celsius and not some bullshit of the probe going 1.3 times c
If you find this fuckin neato, check out the Solar Dynamics Observatory. There's already some pretty fuckin neato imagery of the sun.
But is it manned?
In the US, heat transfer courses are heavily biased to English/imperial units. It was probably designed at 4.5 " nominally due to this.
The big yellow one is the sun, the big yellow one is the sun.
I hope it doesn't get there at night. They won't have any data to use.
I hope they do it at night when it's cooler
My bits are along for the ride.
It couldn't have said 1337 C?
That bad boy has so much science in it
Don't forget to install the Mystery Goo! containers!
Godspeed, proby mcprobeface.
on the contrary ....
Cool but I found this super annoying to read
or would our body's perspiration work in space to keep us cool?
Science. Fuck yeah,
Couldn’t have launched it a day later?
Why would they turn Sarah Parker into a probe?
I´m joking but watch it turn out to be a bad idea and the sun is going to explode because of this little piece of crap
They should really plan it so it will arrive at night....so I will be cooler.
And stop the Chinese plot of global warming for good!
I wonder how far that is from the sun's corona
Good thing Goku's not a pokemon. Also.. whoooosh.
Are you sure it was me who was whooosh? Or you, pokemon watcher?
"Nearly 1377" is just a lamer way of saying "Over 1337"
Images of the Sun are often taken in wavelengths other than visible light.
literally 0% scientist over here: isnt the sun's gravity suck it in closer and burn it?
Could I sign up for a ride there?
Cancelled due to interest
You know what I mean. When will it reach it's destination?
My lazy friend wants to know if you have links. Lazy bum.....
85 fahrenheit 29.44 celsius google.co.uk/amp/s/wired.com/story/parker-solar-probe-brush-with-the-sun/amp
Something to do with the science behind it all, there’s a difference between heat and temperature it’s weird
It doesn't have a destination. It's just being put in a highly elliptical orbit. What is the destination of the Earth?
There is no straight line travel in space. You need to slow down, no matter what. The probe will achieve this by doing multiple swing-bys 1/
on Mercury and Venus. That lowers the accel. that the probe needs to achieve by burns. It still needs to slow down. You can use swing-bys 2/
in the other direction too.
