This is great but will die in the house unless you call your congressman.
Election coming up...
Trump would still need to sign it or get a super majority so don't count on getting it any further than this
The house is like usersub. A lot of stuff dies in it.
It's a nice statement and they get re-election points, but ultimately meaningless because it will fail in the House.
It's not expected to pass the house tho, which is a fucking disgrace!
i know people are still indifferent, but we still have to celebrate even the small wins. annoy the shit out of your reps.
Unless we all work together to prop it up.
House Republicans are terrified of this coming election. The odds of it passing there are way the fuck higher than it passing the Senate
It'll probably pass the House. And if he vetos the most popular bill to pass his desk, the GOP will be hit ads about this through 2020
Perhaps but it is still a good idea to call your congressmen.
It could. House GOP is more scared of this midterm than Senate GOP.
Thank you 100% of Democrats in the Senate and 5.9% of Republicans for doing the right thing.
Paul Ryan decides what comes for a vote on the floor. He's retiring anyway, so he can just bury it & not give a shit about voter outrage.
I hope so!
Which gives me hope that it won't die in usersub... I mean the House of cards... I mean Representatives.
Whoever voted in Nay needs to get their asses rejected out of office toot sweet
100% agree. My rep is a GOP "moderate" who's retiring because he can't take the heat. I'll still call him amyway
And he'll risk losing his gavel by any Republicans who are starting to feel the wind in their faces, which is about 50 of them.
Fellow Imgurians in support of Net Neutrality, please vote accordingly. 100% of Democrats are fighting to stop the death of a free internet.
There's a Rep in my state who's in a competitive district this year. If he wants to keep his job in 6 months, he'll vote for the CRA.
The Republicans in the House would have to give the bribes back. Cohen, too.
It wasn't expected to pass the Senate last week, but it happened. There are at least 25 GOP Representatives from purple districts.
Let’s not forget those who voted against. Let’s make a point that even if net neutrality is saved those who ignored our votes are out.
Aye a very narrow win
wow, truer words could not be said
I love resist not. Thanks for spreading the word.
The burden of a republic.
Trump , who saw to it that ajit pie would become chairman of the fcc, still has to sign it into law.
Where do we get a list of the ones that voted Nay so we can get them the hell out of office?
Here’s an idea. If I the majority of America hate trump an everything he stands for. Why not vote out the republicans
Where do we find out who voted nay?
If the House votes against this, vote the fuckers out in November.
That's pretty sad. This will divide the two parties even more. I'm pretty surprised tbh.
Every Democrat and Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine), John Kennedy (R-Louisiana), and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska)
All other republicans voted nay
And I lean republican but it becoming impossible because the smart parts the non religious fiscal/ freedom parts are gone.
Things are going to be much better when the government is in charge of the internet!
This is very unfortunate as I have center-right views and the republicans don't really represent them that well it seems.
Admittedly, I have not looked at any legitimate arguments in favor of removing net neutrality and assume that there aren't any good ones.
1/ Some have said they'd rather enforce Net Neutrality through legislation than through the FCC. Most Net Neutrality activists aren't
2/ convinced because ISP's could lobby for loopholes or a weaker version of Net Neutrality, like the bill Rep. Blackburn introduced.
I’m exactly the same. I agree with the power of state keeping government regulations to a minimum. Free market. But ISPs are gov backed 1/
Institutions with no way for new competitors. They have gov land rights gov legislation. They are not a free market sector anymore 2/
Same with medical so they need to be regulated until they have competition. And why are they so focused on bible thumper policies. 3
Let’s hope we convince 2/3+ of the House to say yes in order to preclude that… won’t happen, but I can hope.
It's not surprising if you've been paying attention...
Is this hyperbole, or do you really think that's what net neutrality is?
I can’t quite vote in November. Please deal with them.
It won't pass the house....Comcast and time Warner have already bought the members of the house.
No such thing as free internet. Not a comment on nn either
Yea, this is all your fault josh, if you don’t call your congressman
This is crap regulations with a nice name. Please let it die! We need a bill of internet rights, not this crap
Fuck you josh!
Utah never lets me down. Constant shit representatives.
*The burden of a republic which gives corporations more sway in government than people
House hasn't even scheduled a vote.
That's just not the case though as much as the media wants it to be.
They won't vote against it. No vote will be scheduled.
Just because a lot of stuff dies in the house doesn't mean everything has to. I'm Canadian and I'm even worried for you guys. Keep NN
Meaningless symbolic vote to drum up resentment against Republicans before the election. It will never reach the House floor.
52 to 47, no way it should even be that close. What a shit world of corruption we live in.
Huh whole lotta R's on that list
To what end? Even if it passes the house and trump signs it they'll just find another way to fuck it up.
Honestly I wonder why Mitch and Paul haven't already been sacked by their fellow Republicans. I mean they're solely the cause of so much BS.
As cool as that sounds, remember that a majority can just be 51%, there’s millions out there that are ignorant to these facts currently.
Is anything being done about platforms such as fb twitter YouTube silencing free speech? Seems they are a larger monopoly than isp's
Why is this getting downvoted? It's the most likely set of events to happen?
So this is what Ajit Pai said should be done: Resolve the issue in legislation, not by unelected/less accountable bureaucrats like himself.
If you want people to agree with you don't be devisive, like most of the comments on here. explain your cause like an adult.
Sadly it will die in the house
They should have voted on this closer to the midterm elections. So it's fresh in people's minds when they cast that vote
Of course my senators (Burr and Tillis) voted against it and they're not up for election this year.
Maybe people will actually remember this instead of the usual "both parties are equally corrupt, there is no point in voting".
ah so thats why so much weird shit gets put through. The Comparison works.
Remember, remember, we vote in November ‘Gainst internet, treason, and plot I know of no reason, the internet treason should ever be forgot
To be fair the rules brought up by the FCC give the FCC regulatory authority over the internet. So I'd prefer legislation that spells it out
The reality is that it is a mix of the two sides. A little of column A and a little from column B can make a big difference.
Most Republicans are in favor of net neutrality. Not the clowns in the house though because they love that comcast money.
How its it even remotely like that?
47 mother fuckers we need to vote against.
It always feels good seeing someone from your state mentioned by name in one of these.
Call him anyways and make sure he's aware.
Call them to make sure it's in their mind.
Due to the nature of the Congressional Review Act, Congress had to take action now to rescind the FCC’s rule. You wait and it is too late.
My rep (Toomey) also supported Betsy Devos and sent me a letter about it when I wrote to his offices. So he's lost my vote as is.
The republican house will kill it faster than the foetus in that staffer they were having an affair with & with the same level of hypocrisy.
They need to create a new "Title" program to specifically address the internet. Not argue about if the 1930s or 1950s program better fits.
I fucking hate that false equivalence, and it's always from Republicans who don't want to acknowledge the failings of their own politicians.
Unless? What if your congressman already supports it?
I think will have to wait for it to pass through senate and house twice. To force it past trump though. :(. Why did we allow a orangutan to
Run for office
Both parties are corrupt. So vote for the candidate that's least corrupt. Problem solved.
thank you, DEMOCRATS. fuck you, REPUBLICANS. if any of you think this isn't a partisan issue, look to see who voted which way...
According to that tillis isn't senate, he's probably house of reps. At least Pat M isn't governor. He was so fucking scummy.
meaningful. shows the uneducated masses that the GOP is corrupt.
and senate republicans, THEY'RE against it.
I remember when all those people said it wound never pass the senate and phone calls dont matter.
then you cool, baby. My Illinois rep's are boss like that (as far as NN goes)
i remember when they said that about senate republicans
BUT HER EMAILS!
I concur, commence the figurative-fucking of the one called Josh... not literal fucking.
The irony is my internet froze loading the picture.
and sadly it wont mean shit unless we decide it does and actually keep fighting for it... not just when its 'popular' to, but constantly.
We tried during the Obama administration. But they have too much control over appointments to be challenged.
Utah is a religious state where the true and living political party is republican no matter what.
That is what it is. It’s a made up problem that didn’t exist 3 tears ago and now only the government can solve it.
Why are Democrat Senators never praised for crossing the line to be "bi-partisan"? Maybe because they DO vote in lockstep?
Good thing I've got 12 congressional meetings tomorrow
I'm going to go call my young-earth-creationist congressperson again. And I'm going to call my R senator and tell them I'm disappointed.
a list of each one of those 47 fuck muscles
Now I don't know if you have this in america, but in the UK there is a thing called a spoilt ballot. This is better than not voting, because
I read that as erection.. shit got real for a sex
while you don't vote for a specific party, your vote is still counted, so the parties will try to change to fit what you want.
....is this West Wing related?
People just like to believe that democrats are for the people. This is all a show for the midterms. Neither party cares
at this point ALL politicians need to be accounted for. Republican or Democrats. Battleforthenet will post those politicians. No more hiding
They'll fuck it up a whole lot sooner if we just tap out.
I'm sorry but it's true. They both just pander. There's no honesty among them.
That you guy?
But that sweet-sweet russian lobbying money. Think of how many votes that can buy.
"cuz hes an outsider" "hes a straight talker" "LOCK.HER.UP"
Probably because the cause of the most BS is the one dude they can't simply fire at the moment.
^ Sarcasm by the way.
As much as I wish this would happen net neutrality just isn't a big enough issue for people to stop voting GOP
Letter sent to my guy.
It's really not. the rules were put in place to stop ISP abuses that were happening.
That's the punchline. Let them know that it's not going to be easy and every dollar they think they'll earn will be lost in the fight.
Contacting house representatives isn't going to do shit...most of the people that will vote for them don't know what net neutrality even is.
It's great to be hopeful but lets be realistic...the political backlash for them saying "Yeah nah" is much less for them than if they pass /
this - they don't care about us they care about their other $upporter$ lol. Not to mention it'd then have to pass Bubba Gump Trump.
be sure to vote in November
Won't know unless you ask them
Paul Ryan won’t bring it to a vote
Huh, I just didn't see his name there is all.
Still call to support them. Positive feedback is a good motivator as well.
Of course not. The "net neutrality" folks are cool with that censorship.
Yeah, I wonder who paid off the Democrats and the party-jumping Republicans.
Spoilers: it's not.
Because they only do it when their votes won't change outcome, but would be held against them by voters.
Just like Google bought the Senate Dems?
They sold us out to special interest groups just a pad their pockets
I read that as sex... shit got real for a bit
I'm not sure where you're getting that it will probably pass the house haha. This won't see the light of day.
Right, because nothing ever goes wrong when a government agency is given complete authority over a means of communication...
"Net Neutrality" is one more thing that sounds great when you read the name, but when you read the fine print on the other hand...
47 people who think the government shouldn't police content on the internet, or the companies selling access to it.
about par for the course eh?
Funny, the internet always seemed free to me before Net Neutrality, like... the 25+ years prior to Net Neutrality...
Literally all of those "abuses" were later addressed by the FTC, where they should have been.
There are a number of arguments in favor of removing it. 1. It gives the FCC vast authority to regulate the internet, which might end badly
2. It prevents ISPs from offering customers choices, which might result in lower prices.
If the internet was going to go the way of a paid TV subscription, then why hasn't it yet?
3. It does NOTHING to address the lack of competition ISPs have due to regional monopolies.
My rep, when I emailed about these things, emailed me back about why they were good things. I didn't vote for him in the first place
Does it occur to you that there might be good reasons to not support NN aside from bribe money? Cause there are several.
Even if both are corrupt, republican politics are objectively more corrupt
Right, because there couldn't possibly be ANY downsides to "Net Neutrality", I mean, just look at the name, what could be bad about it?
Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter, etc (actually true, look it up).
I would say that a good indication of improper legislation would be when an agency of the government is caught red handed using fake
And then gets vetoed by Trump.
I just used the bot to contact my rep and it was super easy!!
Just remember, businesses can go bankrupt, but government bureaucracies are forever. Who would you rather control the internet?
comments using unsuspecting people's names as justification for their votes on a controversial issue
Then build a better Comcast and put them out of business if you don't like them. If a government agency does something bad you're screwed.
Garanteeed to be vetoed! Just warning you, it sucks I know!
Quality argument you've got there.
You realize that basically all government agencies do this, right? The government doesn't give a shit about comments, which is why...
...the less that government bureaucracies control, the better. Companies go out of business, but the government is forever.
Sorry, we were arguing? Guess we don't need the FDA either? EPA? You like your water filled with toxins and filled with diseases.
will always act in their self interest because it is their prerogative to do so. It is the government's role to keep them in check...
Right, because it's an effective business strategy to poison your customers. The EPA is too busy regulating back yard puddles, and the FDA..
... is the main reason that medicine, and healthcare generally, costs so damn much.
The government won't be providing internet but rather making sure internet providers are not taking advantage of their customers.
Now it may not be a Flawless system but it's what we got to work with and sure as hell beats the alternative.
Was that enough of an argument for you?
I think the people who have to deal with fracking would disagree.
Incorrect regarding the FDA but you missed the point.
@jlarkin200512 u Mad Bro?
IMPORTANT: if you use the resistbot as OP suggests, use your own words. Template messages are being ignored and have been since >
> the first round of this shit started with Ajit Pai.
So you're saying that if I call my congressman, this won't die in the house?
Nope. Don't believe that all government agencies post and use millions of fake comments under stolen identities to cover the fact that said
How many of them do you honestly think have that opinion? Most of them are probably just paid off.
Considering this was basically a party-line vote? I sure hope 'undecideds' pay attention.
agency is about to pass a hugely unpopular law.
It made die in the house but if enough of us put pressure on the people in office it may swing our way.
Far right down like 4
Can I get a run-down on all the important changes that have taken place during NN and post NN for comparison purposes?
Um, everything stated in this post? Contacting representatives, net neutrality and why is it important? Not everyone knows, lol
This shouldn't even be in the senate nor under the FCC. But handled by local councils, commissioners and State Departments of State. Under/1
our constitution the feds and FCC can only regulate the connection that leaves one state and into another. NOT the connection to the ISP /2
itself. They need to turn this over to the local jurisdictions. This would give the people greater control. There's no way a one size fits/3
all solution is going to work for everyone.
Pai then said its sad they voted against it but internet freedom will happen on 11th. Hes an ass whole building was stuffed with lobbiests
A whole sex
this still needs to go through two other challenges, and one is a signature from trump, who vocally supports ending net neutrality. We lost.
still live at home then?
should be a local decision that will be easier to change if it doesn’t work as planned. (most likely wont)
I'm on whatever email list he has, and he sends out emails about how important Net Neutrality is. Also, Google.
If a large majority of voters want Net Neutrality, and it's really important, either the House will pass this or the GOP will lose majority.
Bills passed in the senate can get pigeonholed?
Everyone has some level of corruptedness, that's not the point. Both parties still pass real legislation and you should vote for the party 1
that passes legislation that best aligns with your point of view. 2/2
It remains to be clearly the better policy than the alternative? Ended your sentence for you
America's voting system was created in the early 1800s, and besides allowing nonwhite/women vote, has not really modernized 1/2
leading to our horrible two party system. So, no, unfortunately, we don't have that. They've barely managed to implement electronic voting.
You're right. This isn't an important issue for most Americans.
You have one of those? What's their name?
There is MUCH less diversity of thought on the Democrat side. Remember what happened to Lieberman?
Great, now give us the names of the nays. We got voting to do.
As a Utahn teenager, I can’t stand how red this state is. I agree more with dem than rep on most things, but I can’t vote yet. :(
Won't matter. Ignorant voters and gerrymandering means people stay forever.
It’s a conundrum when choosing a party. Dems in Utah are fringe. Perhaps a left- leaning rep can be more influential. But then you’re a rino
And that really sucks. As a liberal/Democrat, I very much think we need more than one party people can be proud to join.
Unfortunately my already anti-NN GOP Rep is in his last term since he's running for senate. He lost the primary so he's out of a job anyway!
Luke Messer is his name, btw, and he really sucks at his job and I'm glad he's gone. I just hope his replacement isn't even worse.
Don't assume I wanted her either
I just don't trust congress or the FCC with this. Parties in charge change often, and party platforms also change frequently. Local isn't /1
nearly as fickle, and if it does, I can just run myself and fix it.
Everyone is saying to vote them out if they don't pass it, I say vote them out regardless.
Either people didnt like my joke or they took my comment seriously. Smh
With a split that close, I don't really see this as a win.
Greg Gianforte. He body-slammed a reporter last year, and also has said people shouldn't retire "because Noah never retired". Among others.
Yeah, I remember. "You don't have to fall in love. You DO have to fall in line."
Most popular bill? This isn't even an important issue for most americans who vote, they are on the older side and don't even know what it is
You are either incredibly ignorant of the facts or you are paid to spread propaganda.
I want the names of the dickfaces who voted Nay.
Because downvotes, I'll clarify: I'm going to implore congressperson to support net neutrality, and shame R senator for voting against it.
It's gonna die in the house.
You can argue where they are best addressed, that's a valid point. He was claiming they literally never happened, which is different.
nobody did, we were given the option of either strychnine or cyanide
the UK doesn't do electronic voting.
I'm no expert in procedure, it's just what they said on NPR.
Well, he seems to be a very rare bird in Congress thank goodness.
The joke is incredibly overused by this point.
Now let's hope it sticks!
thats part of the joke
And hopefully trending to more rare. Really hoping we vote him out this upcoming election.
You think the ones voting for it aren't paid off? They're just paid off by different companies (Google, Facebook, etc).
Paid... if only. I actually work in the IT industry, so I'm more familiar with this than most.
He didn't claim it never happened, he claimed it wasn't a problem, which it wasn't, cause the FTC addressed it. Problem solved.
By that, i don't mean remote online voting, I meant like machines that record vote electronically instead of punch cards.
so I guess you are all for data restriction
i wasn't talking about voting them out...
i was talking about hiring seagulls to shit on their cars and rain clouds to wet their hair
I'm from wyoming they don't care.
We put a cross in a box with pencil.
To many old people and conservatives dude.
Perhaps, but at least you can say you tried and that failings of Congress is on them.
oh man, good luck with then.
I'd rather have fast lanes and slow lanes with business competition than government control and censorship.
Repealing Net Neutrality is like allowing companies to make highway patrols to force you to pay to access different lanes on the highway.
The scary part is, I actually believe people think that.
Hey man, if you want Trump in charge of your internet, that’s your business, but I don’t.
Um, because that's what it is? Your analogy makes no sense.
That’s nice, it’s wrong but very nice.
I respectfully disagree. Have a good day.
I’m shocked that Democrats are voting for government control of the internet!
It’s almost as if the internet thrived for decades without government regulation?
If you hate republicans so much, why do you want to give them control over the internet?
peddle your BS somewhere else, fox news sheep
fox news BS right there
yep, that's what a typical fox news sheep looks like.
Woah, did you just win an internet argument?
You're such an idiot. The alternative: Comcast runs the internet. Sounds fuuuuucking great. Dummy.
The Up and Down vote is a mystery. Math and Republicans are not. I will bet my negative points it will fail the House vote.
Explain to me how allowing corporations to jack up their fees will make the internet better. Go ahead. I'll wait.
No, the alternative is to allow competition. Don’t like Comcast, start your own ISP and provide the internet you want. I’d sign up.
You can start a ISP with lower prices and under cut the competition. You’d force them to compete with you and lower prices across the board.
And how is that working for the millions of Americans that have no alternative to Comcast?
So why is Comcast the only provider to millions and millions of Americans?
How is government control of the internet working in China, N Korea or Iran? We can play that game all day.
They built the infrastructure, they own it. Cut the red tape required to build new infrastructure and see more competition.
Exactly, the reason we have regional monopolies is because municipalities put up barriers to new entries, like when Google tried to bring...
Fiber internet to a bunch of cities a few years back and they got blocked in several places because governments already had deals made.
Bulllllllsshhhiiiiiiiiit. You're talking censorship, which is NOT happening now. It WILL happen once corporations can do whatever they want.
Just stop with your lying propaganda bullshit comrade.
Why wouldn’t it happen?
